insurance and aftermarket parts
I recently got in a wreck and my headlights need to be replaced, i had them custom made. Shouldn't insurance pay to have these replaced? i have state farm and this looks like it might cause problems...

They will only pay for OEM, so you can upgrade, just have to pay the difference.

This only oem parts they will pay for. Hardly any insurance company will pay for aftermarket.

Isn't there a company that will insure our aftermarket parts post appraisal?

Hagerty is what you want, they will cover your modifications. You put in your cars KBB value and than the value of mods you have done. It costs more than regular insurance, but they will pay for it.

It doesn't always cost more than regular ins. I have Americans Collectors Ins. All I had to do was send them receipts for all the mods I put on the car plus a lot of pics. Then had the car appraised for value. They accepted every thing. I took a $500 deductible. Insurance is $520 a year full amount paid up front.

Most insurance companies will add for aftermarket parts, BUT you have to call them and tell them to add the parts for the insurance.

You got to get a rider added on top of your standard insurance. I do this for custom wheels etc. This way if it gets stolen or wheels stolen the insurance company has a picture and the receipt cost of the wheels. But the benefit like your situation is you tell them you have the RS package and maybe they give you the cost of OEM replacement which should cover your custom lights

If your aftermarket parts are around the same price as OEM then you can probably find a collision shop that'll sneak'em in for ya.

My insurance wants to use aftermarket parts just to save money vs real GM!
