Drove the car for the first time tonight with the new Z/28 CAI and I can definitely hear a deeper and more throaty sound. Although I have not driven the car much recently (only 1 time a couple weeks ago now before tonight) I feel like it pulls harder in the mid and upper range now too. I wish I had a dyno shop closer to me so I could do a before and after comparison on the dyno but that's not really much of an option for me. So I'll have to go by what I feel for now.

When using the dorman pieces do they slide in the factory tubes pretty good or did you have to use something to ensure they stay together?

I thought to myself what do they connect to elbow on the Z/28?

So I looked for pictures of the engine bay. I found the PCV tube and although I could not find the part number for it online I sent an e-mail to my friendly parts manager at Rodger’s Chevrolet (aka Maureen) with a picture of it and she found the part number for me. Fairly inexpensive (<$30). So I used the following 3 parts to route my PCV line in order to maintain the quick connects that the factory uses:

1. Stock 1LE Oil Separator tube cut down near the point shown by the blue line (Photo 1). This part is not available separately from GM and it is only available with the full 1LE Oil Separator kit (GM Part# 12653073). I was fortunate enough to find a member on here that sold me just the tube from their kit so I didn’t have to cut my stock one incase I ever need to revert back to stock.

2. Z/28 PCV tube - GM Part# 12653645 also cut down as shown by the blue line (Photo 2)

3. Dorman PCV elbow (Photo 3) found in Dorman Part number 46024 to connect the two GM PCV tubes together.

I also rotated the 1LE oil separator tube to the inside of the Oil Separator can to put the connection points closer together.

Well enough babbling here are the photos.

So my PCV routing may not work as well for those that want to keep their engine cover on.
I'm with you on the heat soak issue. I wil be making mine work with or without the engine cover. Even though most if the time my cover will be off!

Same here, just haven't had time to do it. Let us know what you come up with?

Thanks for the compliments on my install.

The elbow in the picture fit over both the 1LE Separator Tube and the Z/28 PCV Tube nicely. I didn't have to do anything to make sure they stay together. The elbow is a nice tight fit around the PCV tubes. I used the foam insulator on the Z/28 tube that I trimmed off the full length part to help cover the junction where the elbow and tubes connect.

My main objectives were:

1. Make it clean and "OEM" appearing (assuming the engine cover was not being used since I won't be using mine).
2. Retain the quick connections on both the oil separator and the Z/28 elbow canister.

Retaining the quick connection will make oil changes easier when removing the 1LE oil separator to fill the oil and if I have to remove the intake to work on the car elsewhere then that can be easily disconnected as well.

If you put the rubber hose on that they send with the CAI and use the hose clamps then over time the heat & oil vapor exposure will "glue" the rubber hose to the nipple connections and then it's a PITA to get them apart again.

There was another Dorman "Help" PCV tube I had purchased but then didn't end up using. For those that want to retain their engine cover this piece might be useful to them for a different design approach.

I believe it is Dorman# 46001. I believe it can be found on Amazon as well as in your local autoparts stores (Both O'Reilly and Advanced Auto had this one in my local area). Here's a link to the Dorman page showing the part.

Besides the heat soak issue I personally would rather just see the engine even if it's not as "pretty" to look at. It's an American V8 engine so to me its still more attractive to look at the real thing than a piece of molded plastic covering it!! So I leave it off all the time.

If I need to put the cover back on for any reason in the future I might have to come up with a different design for my PCV line but I'll worry about it then.

Good luck with your PCV line routing! Please post some pics when you get it finished!

So the z28 is the same as the 1le tube? I got that part on order with Maureen. Do you have the pn for the dorman parts you used?

The 1LE tube and the Z/28 tube are the same size (diameter) but they are not same GM Part#.

I listed the Dorman part number for the 2-piece kit that the elbow I used came in (Dorman# 46024). You should be able to find this at your local auto parts store.
