Because before the internet age, 'scat' was what you yelled at a noisy cat caterwauling on your back fence, or it referred to the excreted spoor of an animal. Ever see a cat take off like its tail is on fire and it's head will catch next? That cat might have made some scat too, but that cat definitely knew how to scat.

Then the internet came along, and everyone's mind is in the gutter.

"Scat" is a verb in its usual primary definition, meaning "to depart in haste". The meaning of 'excrement' is only about 90 years old.

The word also describes a type of singing. Also can mean heroin or whiskey.

The Dodge "Scat Pack" was also probably a play on the "Rat Pack".

So now you know why.
