Maybe you can try it on a redneck friends car first.

NOOOOO Rattle can on new car please. You will never get the paint even and a good shine. Do a classy job and have it painted at a local shop. Find a good shop and ask if you can sand the car to save money on the job. But don't use rattle cans on a shiny new factory paint job. You are going to re paint most of the car if the stripe runs all the way down the car. Not paint but clear coat the paint will be minimum. this job will cost you about 2500. or more depending on the quality of the work, You get what you pay for.

I dunno you guys... given the choice between "stick-on" and "rattle can" stripes... I'm not sure if there's a GOOD choice.

Needless to say after the keyboard lashing I've gotten after posting this thread I think I'll just take it to a custom paint shop!
Before you end up with black suburbans at your front door for commiting unspeakable acts to the Camaro check out a couple of shops. There are a couple of paint shops in Valencia that do some pretty nice work and I have never heard of anyone complaining about the pricing. I know there is a shop over by six flags in that industrial park near the new 24hr fitness that I have seen do some bitchin work. I don't remember the name but if you drive around I am sure you will find them...

Almost as funny as this
http://camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2021 (looks like the post and picture that this thread linked to has been deleted. Anybody remeber the picture that guy had drawn or saved the image of it?)

Edit: I found a photo of it to bad the thread had been deleted, it was half of what made it funny.

I will definitely start searching. My mechanic on Boquet Canyon does custom paint also and said they could do the job for about $1k, but since it's not something they do on a daily basis I'd feel better going through a shop that does. I think I'll take a drive around the industrial center today after work...

This is the best part back in high school a guy whos dad was loaded and would have paid for what ever this jack@$$ wanted on his ricer civic. decided to do something like this and drink a few beers. So he figured he should have a few beers to get his creative juices flowing. A few beers turned into 6 before he started, by the end of it he had killed close to a case. Needless to say he was the laughing stock of the school when he showed up to school monday with random spray paint all over the body pannels and hood that resembled something you would expect a drunk redneck to do. And then his dad would not pay to have the car repainted so the spoiled little brat decide to go out and total it thinking daddy would just replace it. Nope his dad a former Marine beat the crap out of him, made him get a job, ride the bus to work and pay him back for the car.

Hey, not that I would do it, but think about Dupli Color wash removable paint. I have seen it on Two Guys Garage and I think Trucks on Powerblock. They have a lot of colors and I think flat black is one. Just tape it off, spray it on. Drive it till you are tired of it then wash it off. It is supposed to stay on through rain and weather, but soap takes it off.

Now THAT is a great idea. It lets you try it out, see if rattle-canning would work for you, and it lets you try different widths/patterns before you actually get it done professionally.

My dear sir you are a gentleman and a scholar. I think I'll try it out on my malibu first, the front end already looks a mess and I just really hate the car.

DO NOT do this yourself. It would almost be as bad as making a card board body kit. I dont know who quoted you for over a thousand dollars for some stripes, but they are crazy, people get whole paint jobs for that down here. Go to a smaller town where there is a reputable body shop.
