I have the basic OnStar, came in handy the second day I had it when I locked my key in the car. Based off of that experience alone I'll probably keep it. I don't have a spare key, (that's cut) so it was pretty useful for me.

![]() Personal decision. It's totally your call. But if they get your credit card number...omg. Good luck. Hope it expires before your subscription.

I personally don't need/use OnStar. Not once in all the years I've had OnStar capable cars have I used it other than to register the car with them and run the app. [if your car has Navigation built-in or you have a reliable mapping software, garmin gps, etc it has even less intrinsic value] They have never gotten and never will have a credit card from me. That's the #1 complaint online - horrible sales pressure tactics when you try to cancel. In a few cases I recall they continued billing even after a request was made to stop. Like we won't notice. I can think of better things to spend on a car. BTW, this has been discussed on the forum before just not recently. I'm sure searching for OnStar would reveal the threads. |

We've got it on all 3 of our equipped cars, with the multicar discount they negotiate, and the savings from the insurance company for having theft recovery, its well worth it for peace of mind IMO.

i think it comes down to a personal thing. if you would like it or not.
It is nice to have them at your wheel when you get into an accident or need directions. However, it is pointless to pay for minutes you might never use. Its like, why buy a gym membership when you never ave time to go?

I look at it more like insurance than a gym membership. I'd prefer to pay for it but never need to use it, but if the need arises I'll be glad we have it.

Agreed. My cell phone has a good navigation app. I configured my door locks so I can only lock them with the Fob or key. I don't get in wrecks. If I need roadside service, I'll call GM or my insurance company. Hands free calling through MyLink Bluetooth and unlimited minutes. I can check my diagnostics myself.
Waste of money to me.

Pretty sure with the newer mylink, the navigation stays with or without the onstar.

I let mine expire and was surprised the app still allows remote door opening as mentioned above.

I liked it when I had it on my Regal. I liked getting the monthly service reports but other than that it didn't do much for me. I cancelled it after the first year. Though I did renew my it on my mother's 2007 STS. She didn't think it was necessary but I felt better knowing that she had it even if she never had to use it.
I never had it on my RS and I don't plan on getting it. I like the idea and it has a certain coolness factor but it is too expensive otherwise.
