break in and the first scratch / dent

hopefully the last nick. got it out of the way at 800 miles. now at 1130 miles after eight months owned. backed into the pole in carport ( already did that in my silverado and my corvette ) sober ! just one of those things. never again. looked clear - useless rear view camera and sensors going nuts. so....

the local mega stealership quoted me $526 for the right rear LED assembly. ( plus $50 core ) but I found one online wholesale for $280. Right part - original and fit perfect. the crunching noise heard backing up was not funny. a small half dollar sized triangular piece fell out of the corner lens. time for a new one. some meguires liquid rub and amazon had the *lemon peel* GM touch up paint for $7.

btw DON'T THINK CHEVY MADE IT EASY TO REPLACE THE LENS ! had to practically stand on the new lens to get in into the bumper. ( ha - gentle pressure indeed ) I see the 2010 - 2013 lens are only about $60 and appear to be much easier for removal.

other than that had another great drive today snorting up the coldish air of November ( 61 degrees ) tires still loose for fun slides ( when cold ) and I accidentally turned off the trac control and didn't notice the idiot light right away. as you may know the 1SS has no console gauge cluster so when you obtain items from the tray below the screen you can hit the button.

Car seems louder and faster now as I approach the "manual" break in of 1500 mi. Have not changed my oil yet - showing 73% oil life left.

Back to my corner now. Enjoy the pole in the picture below. You can see my emergency cover up paint on the pole (which did not match) My other chevys enjoyed meeting it ( the pole ) and the 1LE makes three. My Accord has yet to meet the bastard.

my headstone should read " He loved that car " lol

That sucks! Maybe use bright orange for touch up on that post? Or set a tall orange traffic cone in front of it. That would be softer than a steel post poured in concrete.

and the new lens pic ( no longer flush along the seam... ) warning ! this was at a very low speed ( crawling ) and I assume the stealership would have wanted a thousand bucks plus for the repair.

the bright side - I may have gotten that first ( and last ? ) scratch out of the way.

I would wrap the pole in foam like football goal posts

ouch. frankly OP, i wouldnt have taken the chance parking it there with your new camaro. i know i would be hitting those poles all the time. thats just a high risk situation. if poles cant be moved, can they be wrapped like the schulney mentioned? i just know i wouldnt even attempt it, driving or backing it in.

good luck. thats a real nice 1LE there!

wow, I thought my carport was tight... I will not complain again. So sorry to hear. I've actually done 2 small paint chips already myself when I was working on my car. I had my driver's door open and the fan hit it and left them. doh! And some nice person has left a small ding on the passenger's side.

My wife used to give me a hard time about parking in "Siberia" wherever I go, but I started pointing out cars with door dings and now she is doing the same. Her black LTZ Tahoe would show everything. Also... have you noticed it's the people who need to walk the most who will circle the lot for 15 minutes waiting for a close spot If you do have a noticeable door ding there are paintless dent repair people who do amazing work with their specialty tools.

I had cat scratches on the front right of mine with the first couple weeks. My local detailer said to put large bottled water next to it so I put one and so far no more cat scratches.

I also have slight paint marks at the apex of each door and I know I'm not the only one responsible.

Lastly, the underbody of the front splitter is marked up pretty well so I figure it must be hitting a lot of crap on the road because I haven't grounded it.
