As of this date we do not have another product to replace the Camaro , so the flex line will lose one shift ( 1000 ) people . As has been stated there will be a canvass done to see who would like to retire , that will decide the final numbers on total layoffs.

I have the option to retire as I have 32 yrs service , but will wait to see what exactly is being offered before making a decision . Ideally because I've been involved with the 5thgen since before production and worked on VIN # 0001 , I'd like to see the very last Camaro off the line in November .

I don't want to get into a pissing match with some of my American friends here regarding where the Camaro should be built , but I do have to say I'm disappointed with some of the comments I've read here ! I've owned many American built cars and trucks over the years and have never complained about it being from the USA ,in fact I'm proud to own American assembled products because I know the men and women of General Motors always put their heart and soul into each vehicle . My wife's Malibu is American built , we never for a second , thought about not buying it because of its assembly location !

We are a global economy and the Oshawa plants have been building world class products for over 80 yrs , all of us here have given 100 % to each of the 5thgens going down the line and will continue to do so until the very last day .

I wish my brothers / sisters in Lansing all the best with the 6thgen and know full well they will carry the torch high and with pride .

As always I send best regards to all of you and your families from Canada and have a wonderful weekend.

And just on a side note , I'd like to personally Thank all of you for supporting GM and Team Camaro over the years You are the greatest of customers and I'm always honored to talk and meet a few of you at different events. I will be in Detroit for the 6thgen unveiling and in Bowling Green Ky for C5fest , so hopefully I can meet up with a few more of you . Cheers

I mean this sucks for those in Canada impacted, but the US government poured money into GM with the bailout and haven't recouped upwards of $12 billion despite GM profits of over $22 billion in the years since. The last GM can do is move their workforce base to the country that kept them afloat as a business. If it weren't for the US government those employees who are being laid off with severance packages would have been jobless without any compensation back then.

Sucks, but life sucks sometimes. Hope they are able to land on their feet like I was when I was laid off in 2010.

The ways of corporate America. Long Island NY used to be technology based, i.e. Grummann and Sperry to name 2. Now it's the land of, are you ready, Walmart and Target. And the highest cost of living in the country.

I'm an IT guy. I have been seeing my job first go to Singapore. When that became too expensive, it went to Pune India and Wroclaw Poland. I'm hoping to squeeze 2 more years before the door shuts.

The Canadian government were balls deep in the GM bail out as well.

.
not likely. if the government hadn't got involved GM would done like any other company in financial difficulty and filed for bankruptcy. they would have reorganized and come out of it leaner and more efficient. GM was/is too large a company to far too many sales to simply go out of business one day.

please get your facts straight ......the Canadian (federal) government and the provincial government of Ontario , also poured in tons of $$$ (tax payer dollars) to keep GM afloat as well...so it was a combined effort of the USA government and Canadian government that bailed out GM's *ss.

It disturbs me that anyone in the team that built my car, which has been absolutely perfect, might get laid off.

I hope that GM moves more manufacturing back to Oshawa.
