I got a tiny little scratch on the hood today. A truck kicked a dirt clod back at me and it hit the hood. It just looks to be in the clearcoat and is only about 1/2" long. Not a big deal, really, but it's the first one, and I'm trying to decide if it's worth fixing.

I know it's going to happen again and I will drive myself nuts trying to fix every little blemish it gets. When I got Red Rock Metallic I kind of figured it would show everything, and it does. Makes me wish (kind of) that I had gotten the one in Summit White.

^This.
Whenever I spend a good, long afternoon washing the car it always looks amazing.

Clear bra and rock guards can make a huge difference. Unfortunately, they wont help with the damage you currently have.

37,000 miles after almost 6 years and my SS is almost chip free with trips to So Florida,
Valdosta Ga, Canada, etc. I touched up one facia (gouge) but that's it.
Not complaining but go figure.

I don't know how many of yall have managed to keep it virtually chip free and yall have as many miles as I do!

The roof scratches came from the car wash, so I warn anyone here that wants to protect their car, do NOT use automatic car washes that pull you through! Touchless are the best way to go if you must get one that goes automatically. However if you ever decide that you just dont want to chance it I would totally do it with your hands and two buckets.

I do however get so much enjoyment out of driving my car everyday to and from wherever i want to go.

I did a lot of miles on my 2013 (80 a day, 6 -7 days a week) before trading into my 2014.

Drove it through harsh winters too. It held up fantastic.

I looked at it as daily transportation, not the Holy Shroud of Turin.

Yikes! I have a few after 10K. I guess a repaint is in the future, followed by an immediate clear bra application.

Ditto, why would you not put these on your new car knowing you are going to drive it a lot?

Still looks better than mine. Currently at 8k miles and already have 3 deep, black rock chips on the front bumper and am on a waiting list for a new windshield. Don't feel too bad and count your blessings you don't live in phoenix.

And that's precisely what you do, .

OP learned lesson.

The very first thing I did as soon as mine rolled out if the showroom, was to install invisible paint protection film on all key areas of the car including forward section of roof, A-pillars, mirrors, headlights, etc. The stuff I have on the headlights purportedly can repel a bibi gun pellet lol. The stuff in the paint purportedly "self heals" in the sun. It also never yellows like some other products.

I do some highway, car looks Mint and it's all black too.

I did just replace the gill area film, as it was shot, but when I peeled it off, paint was 100% mint , so this invisible film def works.

I wish I had done the windshield, because I can now see some sand blasting through the naked windshield when facing the sun .

My lesson learned

1000 to 3m it was worth it, black demands it.
