Warranty round two for the ZL1

So, after several days in the dealership for a new supercharger under warranty (rattling fixed), I could hear some other noises from the car including the groaning/whirring sound under low load around sharp corners as well as a particularly annoying exhaust rattle. Sounded like a heat shield at light throttle from the middle to front underside.

Dealer replicated the groaning sound and the rattle sound. There is a TSB for the rear end groan to drain/fill the rear end three times with some figure 8's to resolve it. They're doing that now, and if it doesnt work its time for a new pumpkin.

For the exhaust, dealer said its from a heat shield with a bad tack weld from the factory. Since the exhaust is not serviceable and is one big set, they are replacing the entire catback exhaust with a new OEM piece.

Good service to say the least, just ready to have my car back.

I just had my catback replaced under warranty due to leakage from a bad weld also.

My car service history shows this was already done once. Wonder if there is a problem with these catbacks from the factory. Either way, they got rid of the rear end whine with the TSB for the 3x fluid flush in the diff. Just waiting on the catback to come in.

How do you check your cars service history?

Carfax will usually show you all the dealer service history. If you have a good relationship with your dealer, you can ask them for the eVIS report. It's the dealer's program to check your service history and shows everything reported under warranty work and service to date. Also shows your existing coverage policies, end dates and mileages, onstar status, required field actions (recalls), extended service contracts and diagnostic trouble code history.

They havent fought me at all, even though i have nothing aftermarket. They've basically replaced the blower, rear axle fluid and now the full catback under warranty with no questions asked.

Thanks for the info. I am going to ask for this on my 13 model ZL1 since I bought this car used. It had 3600 miles on it and now I have noticed the hood has been taken off for some reason. I noticed the paint was chipped off on the bolts that hold the hood on. Someone has done something to it I believe.

New catback exhaust system installed. Warranty list so far:
  1. Replaced supercharger under TSB, new solid isolater supercharger installed
  2. Completed TSB for rear end howl during sharp turns, 3x diff drain/fill completed
  3. Replaced full NPP catback system under warranty due to internal flap failure, per tech

Wonder what is next!

I have that same rattle/drone sound coming from my cat back, I always thought it was normal guess I should take it in n get it checked. I just had my dash trim piece replaced due to the ZL1 lettering coming off at no cost

Yep have to be careful when cleaning. Mine came off with a rag.... The lettering is razor thin and the rag slid underneath and pulled 2 letter off. I never replaced though

The dealer will replace the entire trim piece, the new ones are cleared over so they can't come off. I had mine done a few months ago.

Forgot to add the dash piece, they did that too. I'm going to keep an eye on the brake fluid reservoir and see if it weeps/leaks. Will be something else to add for them to take care of if so.

As for the exhaust, it had both a rattle and the flaps would clank a bit. New exhaust has no rattle and the flaps are audible but smooth sounding.
  1. TSB under warranty - Replaced supercharger, new solid isolater supercharger installed
  2. TSB under warranty - Rear end howl during sharp turns, 3x diff drain/fill completed
  3. Warranty - Replaced full NPP catback system due to internal flap failure, per tech
  4. Warranty - Replaced dash piece with 2013 version that has clearcoat over the emblem
