OSF metallic scraping sound on left hand turn - caliper backing plate?

Hi there,

A bit of background that may or may not be relevant. On Thursday upon leaving my daughter's nursery (kindergarten) gravel drive I had terrible scraping/grinding from the OSF. After the first few seconds of thinking the wheel was falling off, I quickly guessed there was a stone stuck in the wheel/caliper. I had to get to work, so a quick visit to my local garage had the wheel removed and the stone dislodged. Free of charge, and didn't think to ask where exactly it was lodged.

This morning I noticed a similar metallic scraping/grinding noise from the same wheel, but only on left hand turns, perhaps half lock, and not quite as bad. I had time, so took the wheel off, but couldn't find any culprits - maybe a tiny stone dropped out without me noticing? Put the wheel back on but it was no better. The metallic sound is quite tinny and hollow, so figured it could be something to do with the caliper backing plate moving when the wheel is turning. No scoring on the disc and the OSF disc is no hotter than the NSF, so figured there is nothing particularly sinister. Went to ATS as my local garage is closed. They took the car round the block and actually came to the same conclusion as me - perhaps something lodged behind the caliper backing plate. Lifted the car up, but couldn't see anything. No stones, no scoring, no cleaning marks etc. They didn't have time to strip the OSF wheel and caliper down, so will need to go back Monday if I want them to do it.

I'm off work next week, so may well do it myself Monday. Before I do, I just wanted to enquire if anyone else has experienced the same and found the backing plate to be the culprit? Is there a common fault that allows this situation to occur regularly? Twice in one week is strange?

Thanks for any help you can provide
