question..need help :-/ (UPDATE)

Guys I have a 2014 with 11k miles..it recently started chirping (sounds like crickets) at idle..Of course its under warranty and I took it to the dealer..got it back a day later and they claim they cannot get it to reproduce the noise it made. Even the service advisor heard it. It is intermittent and normally after a few blocks of driving then it happens at idle (like at stop signs or stop lights) Its so annoying and embarrassing. Its too new and should not be doing that. At first I thought it maybe was a bad belt..or pulley but dealer claims all is good..so frustrated...any ideas? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys

I would agree that it is probably a pulley, most likely the tensioner. Really the only thing you can do is wait until it becomes more consitant, then take it back.

I would do my best to diagnose the problem myself that way you can tell them what needs to be done.

The service tech should have taken you on a road test to get the problem to replicate. Take it back and give them the same description you told us and go through that same process with the service tech present (even if he has to ride-along) to get it to replicate. Also try to avoid diagnosing in loud areas. The service techs deal with loud noises so it can be a little harder for them hear a quiet noise. Normally taking it out to the lot for a minute or two and listening closely will make it easier so tell him to listen for it away from the service bays.

Never thought about asking a service tech to "ride along"...Excellent idea, Thank you!!

Sounds like a belt issue... chirps are often the result of the belt slipping momentarily on a pulley. Could be the tensioner (as previously mentioned), could be the belt itself, or any component that might be not working right (water pump, alternator, etc.).

I consider myself an expert in the field of chirp response: A few months ago, my wife's Suburban was doing it. I replaced the belt (a couple of times), the tensioner, pulley wheels, and just about lost my frickin' mind trying to stop the damn chirping. Many repairs seemed to stop the chirp... but it would soon return. Eventually, in this case, it turned out to be the water pump, just barely starting to fail, with the bearings just briefly and momentarily causing a little seizure, resulting in that infernal freakin' chirp.

If you can get the chirping sound to chirp when you want it to, try spraying a little bit of water on the belt. If that STOPS the chirping, you at least know that it is related to the belt somehow, and you can narrow your search from there.

FIXED

UPDATE:
FINALLY, after taking it to my dealers (Reliable Chevrolet, Springfield, MO) awesome service station 3 times, and in and out of rental, and they still were unable to "find any issue or noise" .... I finally got fed up and took it to another dealer (Pinegar Chevrolet, Republic, MO) They were able to diagnose the problem within an hour. Catalytic converter (L) was still functioning but failing miserably. Strange that I had no check engine lights. Anyway, it was replaced under warranty and returned to me in a day. NO MORE NOISE!
Additionally, they informed me there have been some issues with ignition tumblers "sticking" that is not good, and that they were repairing along with the key recall. An issue that was going on with mine since the beginning AND that I pointed out to Reliable Chevrolet in which they insisted "all was good". Hmmmm Anyway, that will be fixed soon as well!
