2013 HUD remove Teal color
So i am installing HUD in my 2013 LS, and i HATE Teal! I have already done the LED swaps in my cluster and radio myself. I am currently installing HUD in my car and do not want the Teal color!
I tore open my HUD unit to find out where the teal color came from. The LED's are white, after testing, which lead me to believe there was a teal filter and i was right. There is a Teal film sandwiched between the HUD screen. I do not know if this has been visited before so please let me know if it has. Anyone looking to experiment with different color films will benefit form this. I prefer white so i am opting out from any film. Once installed i will post pictures of the final product. I already have my HUD harness, switch and projector. I will be on vacation but when i get back i will install this and post pictures of the color. |

Likely not needed, just there to provide contrast/background for the image.

I will experiment with a few different colors to see the result before tearing out my dash.
The back of the screen itself is pretty dark so i don't think its for contrast as its on the side of the LED's and not the projected image side. I will post pics of it as is with the reflection on the windshield within a week when i get back from vacation. |

Here is the result without the teal film, its a lot brighter and a clearer image, it does not translate in the picture at all.
its more white, just a light hint of blue and no grainy rectangle box outline. i will try different films to see the color differences and post pictures This is also a non HUD windshield |

I have gotten the films in and cut them to size.
I have red, yellow, blue and green. i will post photos of each color so you can see the results. They show up great in day and night. |

It doesn't seem to like the darker colors, they show up in the dark but no so great in daylight.
Red film creates a burnt orange color, looks great at night, but pretty light in daylight. I will try to order some other lighter films to see what other colors i can get. until then i will go with the yellow film. Last edited by mordacious; 05-11-2015 at 11:19 PM. |

That's cool! Wish I saw this before I installed my hud. If I ever need to remove my dash again, that teal film is going.

So i was able to kill the teal tint altogether.
there is a reflective teal mirror. I replaced it with a clear mirror to test. i will do more testing before i post the rest of the results. Last edited by mordacious; 05-12-2015 at 09:05 PM. |

I placed a clear mirror on top of the teal mirror to test.
Now i will be cutting a clear mirror the same shape as the teal one to replace it completely. Then i will post the final results. |

So i cut a new mirror to replace the teal mirror, sanded the edges smooth and it fits perfect
I think i figured out a way to change colors with the gels, so you can change the color under the dash bezel, rather than opening the unit each time. Basically i put a clear mirror, took out the teal gel, so the text is all white now, so my next test will be putting the gel film under the dash bezel to see how it affects the colors, and post results. I'm shooting for making everything clear inside the unit, then being able to change to any color without removing the unit each time. Results will be posted soon. |

ok
after testing using the color gels under the dash bezel work great, the pictures aren't even close to how it really looks. white shows the best, then yellow, then green, then red, then blue so if you change everything to all white, then you can change the gel to any color you want under the dash bezel, pretty simple |
