Yea, we will see. The more I read the more I think you are correct about the Street Slayer. Not that I should have doubted you. The SS Carbon which I think I need is even more than the Mantic though.

But if I want to race often Hendricks Eng is recommending the billet. Gulp. Big bucks.

Maybe its time to get an automatic.

Never had a clutch in a mustang, but most mustang people run RXTs from what I can find. RXTs are great if you measure and get a good one. Mantics are great, and what I run, but not as much of a drag racing clutch, and on a high HP heavy Camaro I don't know if I would trust it to last, at least not the dual. They have a triple now, so if you go mantic I would do the triple.

I am trying out those new offset Diff bushings from Hendrix along with the new clutch. The deal is the diff is raised up just a little to allow the axles to be more of a 90 degree instead of the axles having that slight uphill angle at rest.

One of the promises (which I will give a go to prove) is lower 60 foots. Right now 1.73 is my best. I will be happy with just consistent 1.8s. It could have been my clutch slowly letting go has thrown me off this spring.

Street Slayer Carbon in, 3" exhaust pass-through, and the offset bushings too. Picking the 1LE up tomorrow if I catch the trains right.

There is no 500 mile break in for the SS clutch. But there was a heat cycle thing I did not quite understand. I will ask H-E again about it.

Went to Atco Last Tuesday to try out my latest mods.
  • Street Slayer Twin Carbon Clutch
  • Hendrix Eng. offset delrin diff bushings
  • 3" turbo to tips exhaust

Many thanks to the Ideal Garage for my latest updates. Great work at a reasonable price. I did want to enclose my wastegate dumps in the exhaust but that is pretty tricky and no one really wants to try it.

My reviews:

SS Twin Carbon: So far great clutch. Smooth engagement and fairly quiet with the clutch in at idle. About as quiet as stock, but much quieter then the Centerforce DYAD. I did about eight or nine heat cycles and 300-350 miles of city driving. This is more than recommended, but I wanted to be safe. At the track the clutch grabs like a giant lobster. The engagement is near the top of the travel and a bit more sudden than the DYAD. But remember my DYAD was letting go. I need to learn to launch all over again. However the clutch was rock solid at the track and not a hint of smell or slippage.

Offset Diff Bushings: I hope they don't deform like poly diff bushings can. They are noisey. When I added the poly cradle bushings they added a little noise, but the diff bushings are quite a bit louder. But I knew this would happen. However the Camaro side step is gone! When the boost comes on and the car is not perfectly straight I used to get some side step, especially at 10 pounds. But now straight as an arrow. They did not help my 60 foot yet although I think that will come with more clutch seat time. As an added bonus my low riding ZL1 diff is tucked up a bit higher. There is now a lot of room for my 3" Magnaflow catback around the diff.

3" Exhaust: I do notice the turbo whoosh coming on at a lower RPM and my MPH was consistantly around 125-126, so I think there was some effect. It is louder, deeper, with only a little done. Not a big fan, but I can live with it. I do miss my NPP. On the other hand, 4" quad tips look sick and set off the sleeper look (LOL) a bit from the back.

On to the drag racing. On low boost I was running low 12s, no surprise. At high boost I was squeaking in the 11s. All of my 60s were 2.0. I could not get used to the engagement point. My fastest 60's are still the 1.7s I was getting with my stock clutch and the Nitto NT555Rs. I need more time. I know my current set up is faster.

There were eight or nine 5th gen Camaros there. At one point there were 6 5th gens filling both lanes up front. Wish I had a pic of that!

Also I had fun running with Randy of SJCC. His Camaro is awesome and dynoed at over 650 to the wheels. His vented hood is also very distinctive. And the Inferno Orange is the fastest Camaro color as we all know. His Camaro and mine are very close, but his car is a bit faster.

We ran twice, the first time he had me and then missed 4th(?). I ran 12.195@124.96 and he 12.194@103. I treed him a bit with a .008 red-light to his respecable .240 (oops). He had his revenge later beating me by running 11.770@122 to my 12.028@124.86. On both runs I was pulling him on the big end. I do not think his car is running at full power as his MPH was a little low. But his bigger torque and power earlier in the rev range gave him the advantage. All of our 60's were right around 2.0.

In other news Pat was running consistent 11.1s. But he was cooling his car off the most of the night. I found out why! It turns out he is selling his Mustang to another guy who comes often to the track. Bummer. Pat says he will start over with his 2015 Mustang GT in a couple of weeks. So I finally will be able to beat him! And I do not think the new owner id the driver Pat is so I have a chance to beat Pat's car with the new driver. Is that fair?

Anyway here is a pic of Randy's car:

And here is Billy Speed's Camaro: (I just dig this look, and anther fast Camaro for me to run)

Yea, first I ever heard of that. But better safe than not. Sliding on the big end where the trees are is not fun.

Hey so those new bushings didn't help at all? Did you get the wheels aligned to their specs?

Pat was there playing with low 10 second Z06es and of course scored another 10.8 et even with a sucky 60 foot.

As for me things started out good with a clean 12.0 on low boost. And later running in the 11s at 124 mph at 10 pounds. But then oddly my ET fell into the 12s with my MPH still in the 120s. And the car was popping and missing strangely at the top of third gear.

Well it turns out my clutch was letting go and I was bumping up against the rev limiter. The clutch is a Centerforce DYAD with 1,600 miles on it. I did break it in correctly as advised. It only had about 15 runs on it and I was not beating on it. It must have some kind of problem as the DYAD has a good rep. Right now if I give the car any push at all in the upper gears the clutch lets go. It was a bit hairy uphill on the NJ TP, but we made it to Ideal Garage with no problem.

Ideal Garage is pulling the trans for a diagnoses. This is a bit of a pain in the butt as the turbos ahve to come off. If I have to wait for a rebuild I might just pop a Mantic 9000 in there and sell the rebuilt DYAD. I hear good things about those clutches too.

So now the ZLE is out of commission for a while just like last year.
Hi Fraxum,

I'm sorry to hear that the DYAD let you down and also sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Did you get resolution on this from our customer service? We'd like to know more about it so that we can improve both our clutches and our service for our customers.

If you're curious, we do have a Clutch Diagnostics Guide that might be useful not just for our clutches but also for diagnosing clutch issues in general.

Ideal Garage did the install working with HE so I am sure it was done right. I do not think it was wheel alignment, but rather the bushings needed to be aligned correctly during the install to move the diff up. It is definitely higher. I may not benefit as much from these bushings since my car is not lowered, but the side step fix is a help on the street.

The bushings may help my 60', but right now I am bogging big time with my street ET Streets even at 28 pounds. I have to relearn my launch. The Street Slayer has been great to far but I had an easier time getting the feel of the DYAD. I am sure I just need more seat time with the SS.

I think with a perfect run I can get to very low 11s but now with the weather getting warmer I may not see that until the fall.

Yes I read the guide. I faithfully did the full break in. When the clutch was removed by Ideal Garage, they noticed almost no pressure on the plates. The discs looked almost new as they should with only 1,500 miles but there were burn spots on the plates.

I did get an RMA and the clutch is on its way back you. I liked the clutch but once the car was on the lift I had to put in another readily available clutch. I hope we can work out a solution.

In other news Pat did sell his car.

In the whole time he owned it and through many Test and Tunes that Mustang GT has never been beaten by any 5th Gen Camaro. From stock running as fast as 12.4 to a low boost conservatively tuned Paxton running as fast as 10.7. Amazing car.

It will be missed.

I was back at Atco last Thursday. Even though the air was good I was only scraping the 11s with a best of 11.8. Pat came in his v6 Chrysler sedan and had some fun. His best run of the night was a run against a faster V8 Mustang he put a holeshot on. The guy was so embarrassed he did not come back into the staging lanes. An old man in a baby blue Chrysler ate his lunch.

As for me I had a lot of coaching to launch my car at higher and higher revs. I think at the end I was trying like 5,000 rpm. Bog, Bob, and more Bogging.

But on one run I decided to punish my Street Slayer a bit. I stooped worrying about the lights and just carefully released the clutch and then fed in power.

I felt the pull in my stomach, big time. But because I tripped the lights early my 60' was 2.3. so I think my 40-100 foot was my best 60' ever, My run was very slow.

I think now I will wait for Pat to get his 2015 GT to go back to Atco. What I know is this, unless he gets a blower installed by the dealer he finally is toast!!!
