SS to ZL1
Last weekend I bought a ZL1, and my plan is to sell the SS and make a large payment on the car.
I really like the car, it has everything I ever wanted. It handles great, looks bitchin' has the mylink navigation unit, etc; the problem is that the SS is faster than the ZL1. I Drove both cars today, and there is a night and day difference in power, but I suspect the gap could be closed relatively easily. The SS put down about 490 rwhp, where I suspect the ZL1 is probably around 450 / 470? What do I need to do to get the HP levels about the same? Is it possible to do it without a tune?

Get yourself a no tune Cold air intake! Either rotofab or CAI are great and don't need a tune!

Its had to do anything significant without a tune, but I drove into my shop bone stock and drove out with 511 at the wheels by just doing the Metco pulleys and a base tune to make it run. 1 mod, 2.5 hours... all good. Then I got busy later.
I had an SS for a daily driver a couple years ago. The difference in handling is something far more vast than night and day.

If you were willing to tune, that opens up the door to Pandora's box and your options for power grow. If anything, just get a cold air intake and wait until your warranty is gone before adding the big power.

I want to wait a bit to make sure there are no issues with the car before going as far as a tune. The car has 4k miles on it, I want to make sure there isn't going to be any problems with it a short while down the road. I will probably wait a year, which is about what I waited with the other car.

You'll just be adding more miles and waiting for something to happen which most likely never will. Just take a look at the older posts on here of other owners to confirm. You're smart in waiting and saving up to add mods later. |

Especially these 5.0 Coyote motors with turbos, those are getting abundant in the bay area. I just don't worry about it, I've been modding this era of cars since LS1 was new. It's been all good.
