Straight Pipe question

So I disconnected my mufflers (about half the pipe was still directed into the muffler). I loved the sound, but the drop in power was so horrible I put them back on ASAP. My question is, id love to get straight pipes, but will I experience this same loss of torque? Oh and btw I have an l99 with magna flow x pipe if that matters.
