It's a bolt in bar. There were others that I was looking at but they seemed very pricey. I went with the removable diagonal and harness bars for a couple of reasons: I wanted to be able to take them out when I wasn't in race season. I also wanted to be able to install the rear seat so the car still had a finished look, something I think would be extremely difficult if the bars were welded in. Lastly, if I'm not mistaken, the harness bar, when welded in, would be right up by the seat as opposed to the canting away the bolt in bar has. I wanted some space for my harnesses.
The bar is very well made. I was worried that the ends of the removable bars would be open tubes that would warp when tightened. This is not the case at all. The ends are solid with a machined hole for the bolt drilled through. I was impressed by this. The whole feeling of the bar is solid. However, it is not light by any means of the imagination. It lined up with the chassis very well. Installation was a breeze except for ONE part. The backing plates that go into the rear wheel wells are curved. The pre drilled holes do NOT line up with the bolts. You will have to drill these. I'm very happy with the setup.

Do you think the rear seats could still be used, perhaps with a padding on the non-removable bars? The product description seems to claim so.

Lets make the definitive Harness and racing seat thread!

Did you buy a HANS to go with it? I just got back from Sonoma with my B&K Harness Bar. Went there without a HANS but bought one on site. Thank god. Three accidents that day. Two cars towed out. On guy taken in an ambulance to ER. One car removed from the track with a forklift. Nutty day. A HANS is worth the fee.

I wouldn't put my kid in the back seat, even with padding. It's more for aesthetics. The use of the back seat is pretty much done with now.

No I haven't but definitely getting one. Just wish they weren't so damn expensive for what looks like a relatively simple device.... When I do get one, I'm going to call it the HANS GRUBER device.

They last forever. Won't need to buy another one. And, frankly, they are cheaper than paralysis.

Yeah, that's what I feared. I just can't get over the fact that rear seats would be useless. If this would be the case, I could have just bought a Corvette : (
