Factory thermostat is a "160 degree" unit confirmed

Just started tearing into the Z to swap heads/cam and confirmed the factory thermostat is 70 degrees Celsius or 158 degrees Fahrenheit. So much for all the posts about a 160 thermostat is a horrible thing...blah!

To confirm, who said the 160f thermostat was a horrible thing, other Z/28 owners?

It revolves around the idea that you can't tune the ECM to operate the fans below 192.

This.

Not only that, but you're comparing a track oriented and purposely built car to regular everyday street cars. On Z28s, the engineers can afford to lose a little bit of fuel mileage and motor life to make the car perform better and last longer under severe conditions.

Most people that only say that 160* tstats are bad don't know what they are talking about. They are perfectly fine although they do come with some cons...that's all. And like I mentioned before, a car like the Z28 is can be ok with those cons. A run of the mill Camaro or even other peformance car not so much.
