boricat,

I think that's about as clean as anyone can get.

Thanks for the pics.

I definitely plan on getting the hideaway license plate holders... no way am I letting the license plate ruin the lines of the car, or the chances for photo ops!

Check this out: http://www.swiftmotorsports.com/prod...9f31e771cba318

Looks like they just added it to the catelog!

Slight variation of the no drill front plate mount

CA requires a front plate to be mounted on any motor vehicle issued two plates.

I decided to figure out how to use the supplied front plate bracket without drilling as others in this thread have shown, you can move it down a bit and use ZIP ties to secure it. I altered it a bit by moving the bracket down only by one ridge in the lower grill opening and using four zip ties to secure it along with some industrial velcro to make sure the top half does not rub the front facia/clear bra.

Only slightly different than some other suggestions, but I thought I would share my approach.

I'm making my own using the supplied plate mount and aluminum brackets and have to decide which looks better:

1. One higher
2. Lower
3. Under this is probably to low to the ground the clearance is only 3.75

Couple of more photos in the album area
Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

P.S. I'm liking the other options above which would be safer in a crash.

No drill

I like Boricat's no drill method. I might just do that if it warrants tickets without the plate. The vac hose is a cool Idea to protect the bumper.
I travel to NY two or three times a yr.
Besides I have vanity plates with my name on them.

I live in tx and by the time I made it to the dealership they already drilled it, even though I told them not too and the salesman said that would be fine. I was fuming!

The highest paid police officers in the country goofing with license plate laws, No wonder were in trouble.

Ok. Here is my contribution to the plate issue, costs under $6 from Lowes.

First pic is of the stuff:
1) 1/4" HDPE water line used as spacer on bolt head so bolts don't stick out of plate holder and as compression piece between washers, so grill is not damaged.
2) 1/4" x 3" carriage bolt (2), may switch to regular bolt for tightening purposes, hard to get behind grill without help.
3) 1/4x1-1/4 fender washers(4) 2 painted black.
4) 1/4x1-1/2x1/16 rubber washers (4)
5) 1/4 x 20 nuts (4), may try nylon lock nuts with bolts and help(long arms).

First put small spacer on, then washer ,then rubber washer. Fit this through 2nd opening from the top and push through top opening, two hands, no dropping. You have to kind of work the rubber washer to get it to stick out straight. I used a couple larger ones from my first attempt to mod.

Put grill spacer on then rubber washer then washer then nut, tighten. As you can see from the pics I had alread scribed the bumper where I wanted to line the bolts up, that saved a couple seconds. Just kidding, it's a reflection off the bolts........are you kidding me!

Put the plastic plate holder on right side up, the groovy thingies line up and the top slot goes on the bottom cross bar piece of the grill. Washer and nut to secure.

Any improvements or suggestions are welcome. As you can see by the plastic plate holder, I chopped the cr@p out of it. You will not need to cut yours as much. I did not want anything touching the paint or close enough to vibrate and rub at highway speeds.

As I posted earlier, I am looking to buy another stock plastic plate holder........

D69chris: I'm sure you can buy as many front plate holders as you want from your Chevy dealers parts dept.
Call them for a price.
