Hey upon re-reading the thread I didn't know before that you had installed the pressure and temp sensors inline after the thermostat at first (later moving the temp sensor to the port on the thermostat itself. Was that the entire cause of getting the low temp readings for normal driving?

- The hot oil is supposed to enter the cooler core from the top port, and leave from the bottom. It was the other way around for me initially, since I was fooled by the IN/OUT markings that show wrong ports when you install the adapter upside down. - The thermostat opens up slower when you install it upside down. Thermostat is designed to be next to the hot oil port, and it is switched to the cooled oil port if you install upside down. This issue is even more pronounced if you have a big oil cooler that can substantially cool the oil inside, fooling the thermostat that everything is 'cool'. When I installed the oil cooler adapter right side up, this issue was also fixed. - I don't think moving the oil temp port made much of an impact; definitely no impact at the track. It is obviously more accurate when the engine is cool and the cooler's line doesn't get much oil.

Thanks for answering my many questions!
I actually hadn't considered that it matters which side of the setrab radiator the hot oil goes in... Willing to share the theory behind that? |

This was told me by Michael @ Improved Racing. Hot liquid wants to go up, while colder liquid wants to go down. By setting the output at the lower port, you get more of the cooled liquid to return back to engine.

I'm finally receiving all the remaining Z/28 aero parts tomorrow! Once I find a dependable installer to install fender flares, I'll hit the track right away!
On a side note, I'm also considering if I should switch to the 180 degree thermostat instead of 212 degree for the oil cooler. It might allow more oil flow, and I don't use very thick racing oil to warrant very high thermostat anyway. What do you guys think?

My 2006 Z06 and 2012 Grand Sport usually had the oil around 180 degrees F anyway. I'm thinking it might be more than a few more hot laps. Well let's see how the current setup works first.

It is probably fine on the street. When you were first talking about your street temps I asked a buddy of mine with an Evo 8 about his street temps and he said the oil was in the 160-180 range and the engine had 250000kms on it at that time which is pretty impressive for a tuned tracked car.

Yeah they are both 1LEs, a 13 and a 14. One of them has a gauge that is connected into the improved racing adapter the other I don't believe has a separate gauge, but not sure.
