Repainting bumper......considering new heat exchanger.

I'm about to take my bumper off to have it repainted. Bought the car in TX and it has a front license plate bracket screwed into it.

I'm thinking about going ahead and upgrading the heat exchanger while it is off. I don't really have any supporting mods........yet. Just a CAI. Is this a waste of time? Would my boost levels be negatively affected by the larger capacity HX?

I'm planning on doing pulley swaps, headers and a cam in the future, but I don't want to adversely affect the performance in the here and now.

Any help or comments appreciated.

Thanks.

if the front end is already off, it makes perfect sense to swap it out now vs later. You won't gain anything until supporting mods are performed. You also won't lose anything compared to the stock unit. Boost levels are not affected by this type of liquid heat exchanger. You are thinking about the old air/air type intercoolers that the GN turbo V-6 cars had which could affect boost levels. The intercooler bricks are located under the top hat of the supercharger in our supercharged setup.

Thanks for the input. I noticed Jegs has an AFCO unit with Spal fans attached. Thoughts on this?

You're right. I'm accustomed to the old style air to air coolers. Wasn't even thinking.

Wouldn't I at least gain more consistently cooler temps in the short term though? Cooler temps = more hp right?

I think cooler overall temps = the longer the car can be efficient in making power

Heat soak is a real killer in these cars when you up the boost, If the bumper will be off go ahead and do it and save the headache of doing it later

Hmm. Spal fans are usually pretty good. I will find out soon enough. Ordered the heat exchanger and D3 reservoir yesterday. Time to get to work.

AFCO for the win. That's what I have. But you can definitely hear the fans. I don't mind though.

Just unpacked it and it has a dent in the core. Should I go with it and see if it leaks or see if they will send another?
