I cut the key out of the plastic holder and put it back in the key fob. You need a 1/16" or .062 x 3/8" fowl pin to secure the key back in place. Ace hardware hat it for .27 cents. Total time to reverse this stupidity and get me out of the 90's was 10 minutes.

When I had my '10 2SS RS in the local dealer for powertrain warranty work, the called me and tried to sell me some more service that wasn't necessary. During the conversation, they mentioned a safety recall they "had to do". When I pressed them, and found out it was the key fiasco, I told them not to touch my cool switchblade key. If they did, they would own the car. They reiterated, "it HAD to be done", and I needed to bring-in the other key. I told them it was MY car, not GM's, and someone would get a butt whoopin' if they modified my keys. They said I would have to sign a waiver (which never appeared at check-out time), just a note on the R.O., that I declined the recall. When I picked-up the car, I did have two new, cut keys on a keychain, but the original switchblade key/for was still in-tact.

I also just received a BRAND NEW switchblade key & fob, I purchased off eBay.

It's an original, new-in-package, switchblade key! I'll get it cut and programed to my car, so I'll have another spare. Pretty stupid on GM's part. Issue a safety recall, and still sell the offending part!!!!

I have scheduled the new key thing for my wifes 2013 SS. Her car & she said she wanted to do it even after I showed her the pics & explained it is not mandatory.

When I called the dealer, even the service guy mentioned I could opt out & did not mention signing anything. Only thing was it had to be both keys or neither.

It looks like a broken piece of crap after GM removes the blade and leaves a gapping whole

Hmm, my 2013 ZL1 has both the keys in the switchblades and the new "wallet" keys...they must have done the same...cut the new keys and left the switchblade alone

I've been in contact with GM about this "cheap" fix. I'm not getting far but am staying with it. Has anyone else tried contacting them? My local dealer, Penske Chevrolet, has callled me and admitted that most Camaro owners are declining the fix.

I do not like the new key. lol I wish they would have given it a proper key fob. The one for the Tahoe is nicer. Cutting the blade off the old key fob seems a little ummm cheap. IMO

I am hoping someone comes up with "prettier" one. Maybe in the shape of the Chevy emblem. That would be cute.

You don't have to cut the plastic up. It doesn't matter if you do of course but all I did was put the key in a vice with the plastic on the bottom and tap it using a flat head screwdriver. Plastic pops right off in one piece and less than 10 sec from start to finish

Damn! Wish I would have thought of that!!

I tried putting it in a vice grip and pulling on it with a pair of pliers, but after a few tries, thought I was going to do more damage than good. I wanted to see what they did inside.. Now I know it's just a solid piece of plastic! So I used the dremel method and cut it out. If I was to do it again, at least I have another option and more knowledge under my belt!

I never liked it either, it is too big.
Rather have the FOB integrated on the key end like other companies have done.
