Turning off the Nannies question

Is there a difference between pressing the button twice quick and it says Competitive Mode on the dic and pressing and holding the button for 8 seconds ? From the threads I was reading, some people say press it twice and some say press and hold, do they do the same thing ?

If I understand correctly competitive mode is basically the same as pressing the button once but with launch control and very minimal stability for steering correction in comparison to just pressing the button once. I'll admit it's a little confusing and the tach indicators are confusing too if you aren't paying attention to the DIC.

Holding it for 8 seconds turns stabilitrak off completely, pressing it twice puts it into competitive mode that leaves the system active but gives you more freedom before kicking in and correcting. Go find a big empty parkinglot and play with the different modes, you'll feel the difference pretty quickly. Full stabilitrak will catch it as soon as it starts to get out of line, competitive mode will let you get reasonably sideways before reining it in, and completely off will let ya get as sideways as ya like.

Thanks for the detailed explanation

If that is so, then why does the indicator on my dash show Stabilitrack as being off? I am so dang confused!

Nah, I ain't buyin' it. The ZL1 has like 9 different modes... hell, they could have called it like mode 2 or Stabilitrack 2 where it means less intrusive than 1 or "on" but not "off".

"Off" means off.

With a double press and release of the button (not hold) it should say "stabilitrak competitive mode". Off is achieved by a 8 second press and hold of the button. ZL1 is a different beast, I don't know the specifics of the various modes on those.

OK, but it shows the very same icon of the car and 2 swerving tire tracks and says "off" over by 9 grand on your tach.

I only used the ZL1 example to show that it doesn't have to be all 'on" or "off" and it could be different levels. So if they go through the trouble to say/show "off" and not some level or degree of StabiliTrack intrusion, doesn't that mean it is off?

I guess there's limited space for icons, thats why they used actual words. I don't know, didn't design the system, just telling you how it works.

Does the steering actually get 'tighter'? Hmm... going to have to check this today. I never knew that...

Does the L99 have launch control? If so how does it work?
