Zl1 Rear End Fluid

Draining the factory fill on my ZL1, first time. The owner's manual states the GM Fluid to use but no mention of friction modifier additive. Does the specified GM rear End Fluid contain Friction Modifier? What are you guys using?

The manufacturer has spent billions of dollars designing vehicles. Billions.

Why not just go with what the manual calls for?

Sorry, my post wasn't useful....

Manual (page 11.13) says "Rear Differential Fluid Dexron LS Gear 75W-90 (GM Part No. 88862624)"

I'm guessing the LS is the limited-slip.

The othe V8s use something different.

Thanks, that's kind of what I was thinking. I will go the dealer tomorrow and buy what is recommended.

My SS 1LE was the same, just not sure about the ZL1.

The correct part # for the US is 88862624. In Canada it's the same fluid but the part # is 88862625. It does not require extra friction modifier. After it's done, you might want to take it out to a lot somewhere and do about a half dozen figure 8s at low speed in each direction.

ZED, is your contention that the ZL1 doesn't need the additive? Or that the SS also doesn't need it?

Changed the rear end fluid and look what I found....
This is after 750 miles, bought brand new! the plug on the left is the drain, the one on the right is the fill.

I refilled using the recommended fluid per the owner's manual, it contains the limited slip(friction modifier) no need to add limited slip fluid.
Now the Camaro SS uses a different fluid (part number) and does require adding limited slip fluid, see owners manual.

When using AC Delco fluid ZL1 doesn't, SS does. Not sure about aftermarket. I did use Mobil 1 and added FM in my SS, but used AC in the ZL1

That looks pretty gross, Shark.

We have 500 miles on our LT. I think it's soon time to do the first change.
