Imperial Blue Paint Problems .. What can I do?
After picking up my IBM Camaro last week, I've notice ( under different lighting ) that there seems to be a hazing effect on my hood and front drivers 1/4 panel. Looks to be like an overspray problem, however, I showed it to my dealer ( salesperson and bodyshop ) and they said all they could do was to try and buff it out. Problem is, they believe it to be a problem with the metallic paint under the clearcoat finish and if so, there is nothing they can do! I said that if this is the case, GM should pay for the effected panels to be repainted, but was told that the GM warranty inspector would not permit it and deny the claim. There is also a paint drip at the bottom of the drivers door and a sand speck in the paint on the upper part of the rear drivers wheel well too. I'm very surprised that these issues weren't caught in QC especially since they have a much better lighting system there which would've been easier to detect these issues long before the vehicle was shipped to the dealer.
![]() I've shown these problems to some of the guys that work on the line for the Camaro and they told me this is total . They said if the GM inspector says not to do it, just ask for his manager / supervisor to come to the dealership and view how bad it is and then tell him how pissed I am with GM's quality control. Is this the best method??? I would appreciate any advice on this matter!

Don't take the dealers word for anything. Have the warranty inspector look at it. Keep going up the latter too. You paid to much money for the car to just settle for the paint job.

We have serveral "sand specs" but I can live with that. A paint drip would be borderline, but hazing would drive me NUTS!
I'd be having a fit until the dealer made it right.

I was going to advise you to PM 80Zedder, he works in the paint shop at Oshawa, but it sounds like maybe you have done some of that. Keep pushing, my dealer repainted my entire hood because of a rock chip less than the size of a pinkie fingernail!

I have some on my SIM, no one sees them unless I point them out.
However you might have a clear coat problem, it might be seperating. If a hand glaze or a buff won't fix it I would make them repaint it. Need pics though |

I had buffing marks on mine that could be described as "hazing". The autobody guy at the dealership said it looked like someone at the factory
buffed out a scratch and just did'nt follow up with a lighter pad to get the hazing out. They were maybe 4 by 4 inches on the hood and quarter panel. They finished the buffing out and it was fine then. |
