Cylinder Head Porting
Wanted to get opinions on who to have my heads CNC ported by. I am not looking to buy heads at all. Also trying to decide if I want to do the LSA's on my car or I also have a set of LS9's. Kind of leaning towards the LS9's because of the thicker deck, so I can have them milled down a little. I've been looking at Total Engine Airflow or Advanced Inductions to do the port work. What other suggestions do you guys have?
Appreciate your input....Thanks!

We have a great CNC porting program for the GM LS cylinder heads. Once the CNC process is completed we will assemble them prior to shipping them back to you. Depending on which stage you choose we assemble them using stock valves or upgraded oversize valves. We use GM valve seals, Super 7 locks, Livernois LS valve springs and titanium retainers.
Give us a call and we can discuss what options we have to offer you with either set of cylinder heads you are deciding between. Here is just a quick overview of our cylinder head services. http://www.livernoismotorsports.com/...-Services.html |

I went with hand ported LSA Heads from Jeremy Formato of FasterProms because of all the success he has had in the CTS-V Crowd. He steered me away from CNC'ed heads for my particular build. He has a specific port design for these LSA engines. I just sent my heads down there and waited 3 weeks. I wanted my heads back. I had them milled 0.20 as well.

Have a read here http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/engine/...er-heads-test/
Note mast heads in this comparison suit a large bore....here are the medium bore comparison: Mast Med Bore head results!!! Was forwarded a link to a hotrod mag test from SQP about the mast medium bore heads http://www.superchevy.com/how-to/eng...p/viewall.html - note the heads may have slightly changed since this article or it was a typo as they claim it is a 12 degree head not 11 degrees and the quoted flow numbers are similar and not the same. I'd assume whatever changes if any were made from this older medium bore head to the current would have been for the better. These results are more impressive. A crate motor LS3 was ran up on the dyno in stock form it laid down 469HP and 465lb-ft It then had a camshaft change to 225/231 0.602/0.607 115LSA It then laid down 533HP and 480lb-ft a gain of +64HP and + 15lb-ft It then had a head swap to the medium bore heads it then laid down 568HP and 507lb-ft a gain of +35HP and + 27lb-ft So all up the head gain was decent enough now netting an additional 35HP and 27lb-ft at peak.....no average HP or torque numbers were provided but the peak gains were decent. In theory this could translate into a 40HP gain at the engine on a healthy 600HP motor. |

Advanced Induction is a good choice as well. Ask Smitty and the guys at PCM of NC!

If you read the hot rod link I posted you will see there is very little difference in CNC port programs on ls3/lsa heads from shop to shop.
And that the aftermarket castings are a better design netting more HP and TQ than stock ported heads. |

Personally I would send your heads to Brian Tooley. He will have the CNC work done at Total Engine Airflow then hand finish and assemble them himself. For those that don't know, Total Engine Airflow was Tooley's business before he sold it to to Summit Racing. But all the port designs they use were developed by him.
