Lemon Buyback
So, I just sold my baby back to GM after 4 failed repair attempts on my 45th.
Long story is May last year, after driving home from work, my wife goes to take the Camaro out for a drive, and she comes back inside saying that the car came up with a warning that it had no oil pressure, and to turn off the motor immediately. Had the car towed to the local dealer, they replaced the oil pump saying that it had a stuck check valve. So, come November 2014, and a couple oil changes later, same thing happens. Drove the car home from work, go back an hour or so later, No oil pressure. Get it towed to chevy dealer. Replaced oil pump for a stuck check valve. Late February this year. Same thing, same reason for replacement. At this point, I get a call from GM, saying they want to talk to be about purchasing the car back. I am in denial, thinking that it's been fixed and I start the process, but didn't go through with it. Late last month (May). I drive to my buddy's wood shop after work to work on some projects, and we go to leave hours later...SAME symptoms. I get my car towed again to the same dealer that's been working on my car, and now they're unable to replicate the issue. They release the car to me, and ask that I try to catch it on video. A couple weeks go by, and after driving home from work, and I go to get in my car to go hit the gym, the problem struck! The oil pressure warning came on, and I managed to get video of the dial reading ZERO. I turned off the car, and had it towed again. Showed the video to my service guys, and they're completely astounded, as they had been unable to replicate the issue after I had it towed a second time. The guys at my dealer were pros. They gave me a PO to get a rental at the local rental place and told me to hold onto it as long as I needed. (While going thru the buyback process). I got a hold of GM, and informed them I'd like them to buy back my car. They did so with NO issue what-so-ever. They offered me what I thought was fair (just under $30K for a car with 76,000+mi on it). It paid off my loan, and I have cash on hand. It was all coordinated through my local Chevy dealer, and it couldn't have gone any smoother. I got the check the same day I released the car. I was really impressed by GM's responsiveness and professionalism. Not once did I feel like they were blaming me for the issue at hand. They accepted the car back no questions asked, and gave me a more than fair price for the car. That right there is how a company wins a customer for life. I'll likely be buying a 2016 2SS as soon as I can .

Wow. Those stories are rare where it is pain free! Glad it worked out well. I had to have GM buy back a Grand AM GT several years go for various failing issues. Not a fun process, but it worked out in the end.
Glad you were taken care of! |

Heh, it wasn't pain free, but it was as painless as it could have been. My poor wife cried when we were cleaning out our baby. I'm still pretty sad, but of any outcome that could have happened, I think this was the best outcome. |

If GM would only step up on the 11 and 12 verts instead of blaming the owners for the problems they would still be in good graces with many individuals including myself.

It's cool they initiated the buyback instead of you having to press the issue. Fixing up the nursery for your new 2016 baby should cheer your wife up.

Yes, I think GM didn't want me to go running to one of the thousands of Lemon Law Lawyers that do business here in CA. |

Was not expecting a story like this when I saw the title. That's pretty impressive!

Nice that they treated you fairly. Thanks for sharing but sorry about your Camaro.

sounds to me like it was just some sort of oil pressure sensor/wiring issue. I doubt the oil pump really failed that many times.
they will resell your car with the condition known to the next owner that it was a buyback. they really don't lose much money. |
