![]() That wasn't my greatest time at the track. Was a new tire I was using and I was mislead at what I should try as my cold temperatures, they were set WAY too high and ended up being super greasy after just 1 lap. Was about 3-4 seconds off the pace of my normal running time with just that issue. Here's another video of me on the North side, better tire situation here.

Pitt Race this past weekend. Group 2, session 2. Had a nice showdown with a Mustang from about 20:00 to 23:00.

First time at VIR Full and first time at the track in the Zl1. Not as fast as some of you, but I'll get better with some more time there.
Car is bone stock other than brake fluid. Lots for me to work on, but the only spot the instructor really wanted me to do better was my early braking coming off the back straight. Has to do with me coming from my 4th gen, that just didn't have great brakes, I'm guessing. For some reason the OBDII data didn't make it on the second day of the 2-day event, but I did have the GPS/Lap Timer data, so that's most of the good stuff anyway. Also left the waterproof door on the Gopro, so sound is kind of weak. EDIT: Should add that I had John Heinricy drive the car. Total technology failure as the GoPro video card filled up and the laptimer data went missing. A quick glance at the OBDII data seems to indicate he ran a 2:10 in my car. I'll see if I can analyze it a little more. He said they had been talking about the car when he retired from GM in 2008 and he was very pleased with how it came out. Really wished I had the video of him driving... Best Lap: 2:22.01 And the full session (short and empty since it was the last one of the event) Last edited by z28lt1; 07-02-2015 at 03:22 PM. |

Great job by your girlfriend. I was watching that car during one of the blue sessions. Don asked if I wanted to go solo next time, and I told him I would still like an instructor, as you can see, lots more for me to learn. |

Don't feel bad, I'd be willing to bet that most new people to track days do exactly the same thing, and it may take a little time before you place enough faith in your brakes (and yourself) to delay it. Norm

finished a video for my wife. she turned a 2:23 in our 2011 SS during her solo run. killing these guys in the lead brick. her videos are much more exciting than mine. i run with 1000 HP corvettes that weigh 3300 pounds so i dont dominate to say the least. she runs a great line.

If you haven't already seen this video, it is worth watching. Cages are generally not required for HPDE. I am a strong proponents of full welded in cages and professionally installed restraints. Paint-to-paint contact is strictly forbidden in this particular event. Accidents and mistakes happen.
Are you prepared? |

I live in the Pacific Northwest. There are unsafe tracks that I avoid like Pacific Raceways with its beautiful trees (!!), and safe new tracks that I go often like Ridge Motorsports Park and Oregon Raceway Park. After all, life is all about risk management.

first track day on the new shocks was at VIR. i putted around the first session, then i overdrove the whole second session because i looked at the times from the first one. i had a local guy ride with me the last session of the first day and his debrief was helpful. this video is of the first session of the second day. i lined up at the back and drove easy for the first two laps so i could have clear track and just focus on the line and see how the car was. picked up 8 seconds over last year there is a lot more in the car and i cant wait to get it out on my home track with 10/10THs here in a few days.

we have the battery unhooked all the time. it resets i guess to the build date and goes from there. it doesnt have radio speakers or air conditioning. its just my lead brick track car. its a bang for the buck build for sure but we do ok with it for what we spend and its fun fun to drive now.
