Paint Flaking Under Spoiler

I removed my spoiler this past weekend to install a new one and I noticed that the paint is flaking off in several places. It appears that the spoiler was installed while the paint was still wet and the spoiler rubbed it off. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this, and if so how it worked out for you.

I spoke with the Chevy Cust Svc rep here on C5 and they were helpful as usual; they reached out to the dealership for me and had their service dept call me. I will have it looked at this week and update this thread on what happens.

Hey this is awesome - keep updates coming. I recently noticed the exact same thing on my trunk...I've read that they'll fix it, but I'm well out of any 3/30 warranty and not sure if I'm still in the 5/100 window...would be interesting to see how they'd handle this on my 2011....

They had a TSB for this on the 2010 models. Shame it's happening again with the 2014 models

I spoke with a guy at Cars and Coffee Sunday (sweet black ZL1!) and his had the same problem. He said Knapp Chevy fixed his under warranty.

Good to know! Agreed, it shouldn't happen at all!

I'm going to the dealer local to my work after lunch to show it to them. They seemed positive about it yesterday when I talked to them.

It's occurred on all years from what I've read.

It happens to some extent on all cars, it just goes unnoticed as most people never remove the spoiler.

Just wanted to update this thread. I dropped my car off yesterday at Classic Chevrolet in Sugarland, TX. The Service Manager agreed to repaint my trunk lid under warranty. Two things have "gone down" since I dropped off my car.

1st. (mods are in my sig) I have a lot of money in my car. A LOT. My car is babied. My car is also incredibly loud. So I drop my car off with the service dept and walk ~60 yards over to the loaner car office to get a loaner car. While I'm there they start my car and move it. As I said, LOUD. So what does the jackwad do? He gets in it, starts revving it and hauls but in their parking lot!!
I proceed to take my keys from him and give him a nice talking to. I think talk to the Service Advisor about it. The Service Advisor handled the situation perfectly, for that I am very grateful.

2nd. I get to work this morning to see an email from their Service Manager. They are saying that because they didn't install my aftermarket spoiler that the damage is not under warranty. I replied back saying that the damage was their prior to my new spoiler. Just got off the phone with him, they ARE going to fix it. I was def nervous for a bit.

Car should be ready in a day or so. I'll update again once I pick it up.

Well, that's a bummer. I'm out of the 3yr warranty period on mine. Glad they're working with you - I highly doubt that I'll be able to get mine fixed, but have been considering a full repaint at some point in the future. Got so many dings and scratches on the car that it's starting to really look like the daily driver that it is...nothing too bad yet, though.

Thanks for the update! I may call Westside Chevy, as that's where I got the car (and more recently my wife's Tahoe) and they were pretty good through the process both times. Hopefully they may work with me.

Also! HP is having a meetup this Sat...you should join in!

Picking it up today at 5. We'll see the quality of work they did and if there are any issues picking it up.

I picked my car up this past Thu. I was in a hurry when I got there because we were running late. I glanced over the rear of the car and thought it looked fine so we left. When I got home I saw what appeared to be overspray on the back of the trunk on either side of the 3rd brake light. I rubbed it to see if it would be easily buffed out, it was slick as if it was under the clear coat. I took the car back on Monday to their body shop, showed it to the manager, and he said okay, we'll take care of it. They put me in a loaner car again (for free) and sent me on my way. I picked the car up yesterday, (this time I thoroughly inspected it!) and I could not find any problems with it at all! I had to take the manager for a ride down the road because he was a fan of the car, but that was fun so it's all good!

Very satisfied with how Classic Chevy handled my issues, and how they acted.
