rim Corrosion

The rims on my 2010 Camaro are starting to corrode under the clear coat. My car has never seen snow or rain, only has 8900 miles on it. GM said that they would pay 60% of replacement. My cost will be $900.00, but they said it would most likely happen again. I called a repair place and they said that they can remove the clear coat and polish them and leave uncoated. This will cost 600.00 Just looking for opinions.

It has never seen rain or snow and is corroding? Sounds like a defect in that case. Post pictures so we can see.

as soon as I get home from work I will. The dealer said that even if I replace them , they will do the same thing down the road.

I think it's the metal in the brake pads that damage the clear coat. If you replace them, spray the wheels with Iron X once a year. It's great stuff... Dissolves the iron. Also some quality ceramic pads like Akebono would help.

My 2010 rims have no corrosion under the clear coat after 47,000 miles, even though I can see chips in the clear coat.

On the other hand, the cars I have driven in winter, which are exposed to road salt, have all had massive clear coat failures.

Had mine power coated for $60.00 per wheel. Just another option.

If it's going to cost you $900 any way, why not spend a little more and get some custom wheels? BTW,I picked up a set of 2014 SS wheels for $400, and then sold my 2010 SS wheels for $400. The new wheels had front tires that were good and all 4 had tmps installed. If you us the 2014 tmps, calibrate them using the 2010 method or they have error issues.

I recently bought my camaro used had 6k miles on it and noticed it had some spots on every wheel after a few weeks of me owning it, i didnt cause it so i called up the dealer and they looked at them and said it was very common, so they were able to get me a new set covered under factory warranty, so if you got factory warranty try that!JUst got my new wheels yesterday!
