Angry Had an accident with my Camaro tonight..

I have an Inferno Orange Camaro 2012, and I was driving home from dinner and a large tailpipe was in the road in the other lane. A jeep was next to me slightly ahead and ran it over, but like a rock shoots from a tire this tailpipe also shot out sideways and hit my car. It barely missed the right side door, and hit the main body in two places. Denting it both places and taking the paint off.

I'm so mad right now. How the hell can someone lose a tailpipe and not go back for it? It's late now but In will get pictures in the morning and post them.

Anyone else have any horror stories like this with their Camaros? It would help me feel better if I knew I wasn't the only Camaro owner who had an accident like this.

Thanks for your time in reading this, and your comments will help me feel better.

JayD and I have had very similar days actually.

Feel your pain man, mine hits the body shop Monday morning.

As I've heard numerous times today, "Glad you're ok, coulda been worse, it can be fixed and soon will be."

Believe me, I understand your frustration right now. All I've got to offer, beyond the stuff you know already is... do whatever it is you need to wind down, and drive on. Ultimately, it's just one more thing to handle, and you will. Still sucks, but it'll be done with soon enough.

Sorry about what happened but are you looking for solace for someone else's misery?

Ummmm probably because they want to avoid becoming the tailpipe in your story.

Relax, be thankful it did not impale your head, because if it did, you would be in the "body" shop...........not the Camaro

I used to own a '74 Mustang. I bought a $30 muffler to put on there & installed it with pipe clamps & using a coat hanger to hold it up.

Of course damn thing kept falling off & I'd always go back to get it. Damn near got killed on several occasions... but that was $30 bucks.

A car driving around with a rust exhaust system probably is on the loud side. Some people turn the radio up to fix the exhaust noise.

So when a piece falls off, how do you expect them to hear it?

Pfft. I was driving down Route 1 in PA. Some beat ass loud pickup pulls off of Route 13 onto Route 1 via the exit. I hear this horrible grinding noise. The pickup is speeding and I see it - the dude is dragging his exhaust from the axle back.

I exclaim, "Holy shit! That dude's exhaust is dragging!" to myself.

Not 2 seconds later, the tailpipe from the muffler back detaches completely, doubles end over end, bouncing at me at 65 miles per hour like a boomerang as I drive toward it at full speed. The thing jumps across 2 lanes of traffic, smacks the front bumper and I ride over it at 60+ miles per hour. It was a frigging heat-seeking missile. I wasn't even in his lane. The whole thing was happening in slow motion in my mind, where the inner monolouge went something like Darth Vader's "NOOOO!!!!" from Episode 3. The steel bumper had a baseball-sized dent in it. Good thing I was in a company work truck with a stainless steel bumper, because it would've ripped up the Camaro really badly. The lower air dam has a 1 foot chunk taken out of it, too.

People are just scumbags. They don't care.

Your last sentence is spot on, people don't care about their vehicles, or how they impact others.. It is just a way to get from point a to point b.. Who cares what it looks like.. If something falls off, oh well....

Thanks everyone for your stories. It's good to to know I'm not the only unlucky Camaro owner. While I know this accident could have been a lot worse, it still sucks to have this happen to such a beautiful car, which I garage keep and wash and wax 2-3 times a month. It's such a shame that people do not take better care of their cars to the point that a Muffler would fall off, and they leave it there on the road. (The car who owned that muffer was long gone and not even attempting to get it.) If I had lost a muffler, I would at least pick it up off of the street.

I do have insurance, but the problem for me is, I will have to do without my car for a week or two because of this.
