DROVE MY Z TODAY
Well I thought I would share something. I bought my Z/28 in january and it has been a garage queen. I got to thinking about it just sitting there and said no more! I got it out of there and took off to fuel it up because I knew I was going to drive it further than what gas was in it. Well let me tell you, it really is a blast to drive! Now granted it is a little stiffer on the ride than my ZL1 but not enough to complain about because the recaro seats help a bunch. Now I had to stop several times at some stop lights and I was the first car in line at the light and I had to gouge it and damn this car pulls hard! In second gear there is a amazing pull you back in the seat and hang on feeling more than I ever have had in the ZL1. I really think at this point a stock Z/28 would give a ZL1 a battle to keep up with it! I am not to sure the ZL1 can do it,at least mine anyway. I really like both of these cars but all of the talk about a Z/28 not being a street car and only for a track is BS. This car is as serious on the street as it is on the track,do not take it lightly!! So all in all for you guys who are on the fence about buying a 28 because you have heard the "track only" phrase attached to the car do not be misled. It is a car that can be drove and enjoyed on the street and while you are out there wipe up a few other hi-perf cars!

I've put about 450 miles on mine. All street/highway miles. It's definitely streetable, but it does not like crappy city streets and the ride is much harsher on those streets than most stock muscle cars.
I agree with you, that the z/28 is not just a track car. Not a comfortable daily driver though, in my opinion. No one who has driven one will deny the blast factor though!

Mine is destined to be a street toy, and yea its a bit stiff on crappy roads. Worst problem seems to be not bad pavement but pavement with too many dips in it... my wife actually griped on one road yesterday and she's pretty hardcore; her FJ is almost as stiff as the Z/28.
And oddly enough, I find the z/28 to be a very easy car to cruise in. Short shift, burble along.. torque is a wonderful thing. Also, breaking the tires free in 3rd on the road is...exciting. I turned to my wife, pointed to the traction control button and said "See this button? You must never ever ever touch this button.."

Never show anyone the button. Track mode plus duct tape.

ZL1 is soft. The 3.91s in the Z/28 make things happen!

Yes sir it does!! I was totally surprised because I just did not know the car would run like that. I knew it would run but I must admit I did not know it would like what I experienced today.

Bigtime53,
You have the experience of owning both a ZL1 and a Z28, I am envious!! If I could I would too!

OP, glad you see what some of us have been saying for a while now. There's a reason why the Z/28 won Motor Trend's BDC.

Bigtime53, I had a ZL1 as well and sold it, and eventually replaced it with the Z28 and I agree with you 100%. Since buying mine last month we have 1200 miles on it (almost broke in).
Today, there was a punk in a newer Dodge Charger who went to speed up when I was passing him, I dropped it to 4th gear, hammered it and before I knew it I was pulling away from him doing 125. It was awesome and I do not recall the Zl1 having that kind of pop at 80 miles an hour. Needless to say that was the last I saw of that Mopar, the best part is there was a corner tossed in, the Z28 was on rails, I never lifted. |

I will tell you this 28 really impressed me today. I let it stay in the garage because I really wanted to buy some tires to put on it before I started driving it because of them being so sticky and throwing rocks everywhere on it but I just said the heck with it and got it out. I had read so much about this car and there is alot of negative threads about it {but good ones to} and I will admit I was believing some of the bad ones. But I have a whole new look on this car and I will say to those nay comments you should drive one before you talk.
