CG Lock
So I have read more than a few threads on here about putting harness bars in our cars.
Let me preface by saying that I am not a track day guy at all. I have owned and raced many different types of vehicles and to be honest I really do not get the track day thing. If it was going to be more than a 1 or 2 time event, just go get a race car and do it right. Sorry about that, I jumped on a soapbox. With that said, in September NASA is running a HPDE event at Kansas Speedway that I was thinking about running the Z28 (just one time to see what it will do on a track, not to improve my abilities. At 49 they are not going to get any better). Given my racing back ground and the fact that I have 2 daughters (13 and 5), safety matters. This morning I went to my tool box and found a CG Lock that I bought for my 06 Lotus Exige some time ago. I ended up putting a harness in that car and never used the CG Lock. Long story short, I installed it today.... WOW What a different in the belts. It will allow you to lock the lap belt down so tight (as tight as I have ever gotten a lap belt in any race car of mine). Not that this should replace a harness if you are going to get serious about tracking your car, but for us 1 day wonders, I would highly recommend one. It is my understanding that they are highly utilized for stock SCCA autocrossers. Just thought I would share. |

I recently bought CG-Lock for my car as well and feel the same way. Made a huge difference in keeping my lower body planted in the seat. I even bought a second one for the passenger side. At only $60 on Amazon you can't go wrong. I would highly recommend this product to anyone doing autocross or occasional HPDE's.

In my experience, it damaged the seat belt after a year-long use, and the belt costs way more to replace than the CG-lock :(
I installed Schroth Rallye 3 ASM; it's almost as good as full race harness, and yet doies not require harness bar, etc.

It uses seat belt mounts for everything (which is part of why it's DOT approved unlike any other racing harness). The Rallye 3 model mounts to the top seat belt mount of the rear seat on C-pillar, seat belt receptor mount, and the bottom door side mount of the seat belt.

X25s, thanks for the input, if I was going to track more than once, I would go with the 3 as well. For one trip, not worth the effort.
BTW, I love your build thread and based on your statement the CG Lock will come off and not used for daily driving, great point, thank you. |

I like the idea of the Schroth Rallye 3 ASM system you have installed but my only concern is the HANS device concern that people have talked about in other threads. Bascially with the Rallye 3 ASM your torso would held in place so well that your head/neck becomes the next point of concern for injury.

I know this post is not going to be popular with all the keyboard jocky's, spend your money on a Stilo CF helmet the lighter the helmet the less probably neck injury will be. I have seen way more collar bone injuries over the years than neck injuries, just saying.....

![]() HANS: Normally, with any race harness, you MUST use HANS device. The reason is that you're obviously pinned, and during a hard crash, your spine might detach(!) from your head. There is only one exception to this rule: Schroth. Schroth's patented double stitched race harness blows the stitches during a crash, and lets one of your shoulders move to get you 'unpinned'. Due to their patents, Schroth is the only brand that has a product like this.
