Here are my thoughts, organized into a list form:
1. If you want to carry your bikes, get a hitch, especially if you value your paint/investment. If something is touching or rubbing on the paint, bike or rack, your paint will be damaged. Period. 2. Covering your tail lights, regardless of being able to see them through the wheels, can't be safe. 3. Cops are going to LOVE cracking out that ticket book for a hard-to-see if not impossible-to-see plate and tail lights. 4. Rear visibility is already trash in these cars. This is just the icing on the cake.

And I actually am surprised by the responses. Especially people who act like they've never seen a bike rack on a car before. As if this is some kind of revolutionary new and incredibly dangerous invention, or as if you've all been scared by bikes falling off bike racks in front of you in the past. |

FYI, if you pop the front wheel off a road bike and drop the rear seat back in the car, you can fit the bike in the trunk and shut the lid with no real problem. Done this in Mustangs and Gen 4/5 Camaros. Gen 4 Camaro would actually hold 2 bikes internally!

Yea I can get just my bike in the trunk no problem. But when there's 2, no chance.

If you don't care about the paint, then kudos to you. Not really sure why you wouldn't value your investment, but that's not my business.

Just make sure the bikes are on there good! I was just behind some guy on the interstate the other day that lost both of his bikes. Wasn't a pretty sight!

Wow, so many negative comments. My bike rack really does not work on my car so its either put the bike in the trunk or I need to take my wife's car (I'd rather NOT!)
I need to check this out. Thanks for the info. |

And to the other negative guys ... the tail lights show through fine. Bikes are really not that huge to block the lights.

God, these responses are ridiculous. It's just a car, people. If you're really worried about 2 pieces of foam and a little bit of pressure on the bumper's paint, get a reality check. Is the minute amount of 'damage' ever going to be noticeable? No.
Funny how nobody says anything to the people who plaster masking tape all over the front of their cars to go on long trips, yet you're all wound up over 2 pieces of foam rubbing on the paint. ![]() To the comments about taillight visibility - there's really no getting past the reduction in visibility with a bike rack, whether it be trunk mounted or hitch mounted. You're going to block the taillights and likely the license plate no matter the car. We used to hitch 3-4 bikes on the back of a Tahoe and drive 1,500 miles without issues, even when the wheels were overlapping the taillights & plate.
