Strange 1LE Tire Question
So, I see that some folks have dismounted/mounted their F1s in order to rotate them with the staggered rims. I haven't decided yet if I'm willing to risk the rim scratches to do it. But . . .
In the meantime, I also have installed white lettering on my tires, can I can't decide if I like them. If I rotate via mount/dismount, I might want to turn the white letters to the inside and hide them. Basically, I would "cross" the tires, e.g. the back/left would go to the front/right and so on. So that I don't have to take the wheel off and look myself, for those who have their rims and/or wheels off a bunch, do these tires look the same on the inside with the same markings? So, they would be identical if I crossed them and turned them around? |

Since stock F1s are directional and asymmetrical, the tread blocks on inboard side of tire don't 'belong' on the outboard side. And vice versa. You will get a different performance. Also, don't try to reverse the direction the tire rolls or you risk the tire coming apart from the inside out (see Formula 1 issues from early in the year during last season).
In other words, you are stuck with what you've got with staggered wheels. What I'm gonna do is get two more 10" rims and keep the same sized tires on all four corners. That way, at least I can rotate front and rear on the same side of the car.

So, even though I would be crossing them (front/left to back/right, front/right to back/left, etc) and keeping them pointed in the right direction, you're saying there is a set "inside" and "outside" with these tires too that would preclude me doing that?
EDIT: MySST, I see your point, since the tread is not symmetrical, there would be a designated inside and outside. Well, I guess I like the white lettering after all ![]() I just need now to decide if I want to dismount/mount in order solely to rotate front to back and back to front for wear purposes. |

You could switch sides with them. The directional pattern will be wrong but Goodyear says it won't effect the integrity of the tire but it will reduce its wet performance.

So, when you say Goodyear says it won't affect integrity . . . are you thinking switch back-with-back and front-with-front, leaving them on the rims they are on now and just having the tires turning in the "wrong" direction? Or like I originally mentioned, crossing them through dismount/mount so that they remain pointed in the right direction but have the insides on the outside and vice versa?

In the two sets I have had of the eagle f1s, I had them uncounted and remounted front to back (same side) and got a lot more tire life out them. Discount tire did the the rebalance for around $70 each time. Money well spent.

Yep. And they don't cleanup the old goo. There's a performance tire shop out here (OnEdge / BigO) that'll do a proper job and put on race weights but they are super busy and far away. -CRT Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

If I went through with the rotation, I would remove the wheels myself, remove the weights myself, and haul them to the tire shop via another vehicle . . . thus minimizing the risk of scratches as much as I can.

I know you have this done, but for another thought, here is what we did. We saved the fronts from the first tire purchase as they still had a decent amount of tread in the center (rolled a good bit on the corners). When the second set of rears went, I re-mounted the saved fronts. The rears went at about 15K both times, but I now think I can get an additional 5 - 7.5K out of the tires I have on the car (2nd set fronts on front, 1st set fronts on rear). This minimized the number of times the tires had to come on and off the wheels.

Please post a picture of the car with white lettering (if you haven't and I just don't see it on my phone).
Thanks

Gotcha, so the inside and outside would be right, but the directional rotation wrong. I will have to think about that one. |

May i ask how you did the white lettering? I did on mine, love it, but looks like craps like 5 miles later ... paint is cracking and fading really fast
