tint??

I got my car tinted a few months back, I believe it's 30-35% now a days I feel like the inside of my car is way too transparent, not to mention being in this southern heat! so I wanted to know what % would give me a barely visible silhouette during the day but an opaque look at night? 20% maybe 15?

Here is a guide for tint laws in LA. Some ignore these laws and find a place that will tint as much as you want - most tint shops will not exceed state law.

Depending on your tint laws... be careful.
15% is really dark on the sides, then limo (5-7%) on the back. But be ready to get hassled if you have it too dark. Not sure on Louisiana's law, but in Texas they have to read 25% transmission on the sides to pass inspection and they will use a light meter if they think it is too dark. Had that happen on another car.

Ceramic tint will reject heat better than just the tinted film. You can get it in smoked though as well, but that has better heat rejection.

Texas law was recently updated (2013ish, I think?) to read 20% total - so you can go a bit darker if you want HERE's the inspection handbook - reference p. 4-28 sec 20.32

and damn do those LA laws SUUUCCKK....40/25/12?? That's hardly tinted...I'd presume some cars come with their glass that dark on the front.

OP DEFINITELY get some ceramic tint - since you can't go dark, you're gonna need all the help you can get rejecting heat. Spent a few years in LA courtesy of Uncle Sam, so I know all too well how nasty hot it can get there...

They can exceed state law but the person will have to sign a waiver saying it's not the shops fault if the person gets pulled over for tint. Or like you said maybe LA shops can't exceed the tint law.

I never heard that before.
I know in PA putting ANY tint on is exceeding the law. I never had to sign any waivers on My other 2 vehicles though?

Here you need to sign a waiver knowing that the shop is about to install non legal tint and you can't come back and complain to the shop that you got a ticket for illegal tint. Again it probably differs in each state. I think its a good idea for shops doing this saying, hey you understood the laws and you still wanted the tint so don't complain to us that you got a ticket. Never got pulled over for it yet but still have the signed documentation stating that.

As for the OP if you have the money go with a nice ceramic tint, something that will extract the heat from the car and also give it a good look. I may upgrade to this kind in the next year or so, should of done it the first time lol.

Your tint laws are a lot more relaxed though. I thought of registering My car in Ohio at the in Laws address but figured it wasn't worth the hassles that go along with it.

In nj tints are illegal on front windows period. However I didn't care and got 5% all around and don't regret it.

You must be young.
My truck has 5 on the sides and I can't see anything at night.
You may not regret it now but when you have old eyes you will.

Careful brother, that inspection book is 8 years old.

Current law for Texas is here or here, updated late 2013 / early 2014 as you mentioned and is now 25%.

Remember as well because the Camaro windows are so narrow and small that tint looks darker than it actually is from the outside. I have 30% all the way around, and from every angle except straight on, it looks limo.

And it's super illegal here, but I've never been bothered.

I see where that inspection criteria says 20%, but all the laws I can find still say 25%. Maybe the inspection criteria has a "guard band". Can you point me to a law that says 20%?

thanks for all of the feedback guys!! im sure I will be exceeding the state limit. darker windows add more of a pop in my opinion. I hate walking up to my car and being able to see everything on the other side the car through the windows
