Nice. I was thinking of getting an Android stick to load xbmc on it although concerned on power draw. They all seem to want 2A and I haven't read many good reviews on a step down 12v to 5v 2A converters.

I'm sure that typical power consumption for Android sticks (like mk802 or similar) is about 1-1.2A. And you can use something like this, it's based on kis3r33s module.

I'm gonna give it a shot. Bought a different converter thats enclosed versus an open board like the example and a MK808BPlus Android stick. Should be a short project for the weekend.

I have one also. I thought it looked familiar. I forgot about that device. That might be nice in a car. Thanks.

So is the USB port on the HD-Link not capable of that much current? Is that the issue that requires a 12volt to 5 volt converter?

From what they emailed to me, yes, not capable of that much power. For the Apcast its fine, but running Android OS I guess not.

I'm gonna try it first and see what happens. Worst it would be is underpowered, laggy or won't work. Then I'll run the converter

So the Android Stick does Work

Here is a quick video. It is powered using the HD-Link and I did not use a step down or add a circuit.

Will there be a HD-LINK model that passes the audio through the HDMI?.. would be nice!

I think it does pass through the input. You still have to hook up the AUX in. So all of your input devices only need HDMI and not separate audio. I'm installing shortly, so I hope that's how it works.

you could just buy the navigation setup and keep that factory look

Why not?!?

http://www.cnet.com/videos/the-tiny-...lu-ray-player/

As long as it has HDMI out, it should work. If you were talking about a USB DVD/Blueray player, then no. That is made for a PC, not a car stereo ! Now if you want to use a USB DVD/Blueray player, then you have to hook it up to a mini-PC that can read it and have HDMI out. Your choice how you want to do it and still keep the stock MyLink radio..

Hope that helps!
