Low oil pressure-turn engine off
At the drag strip this evening, I finished making my pass and the car ran fine, sounded fine - totally normal. I parked the car to watch some friends make their passes, I go back to my car to start it and the car starts beeping and on the dash I get the message about low oil pressure, turn engine off. I oil pressure gauge reads 0. Engine mods, this is a cam only car with less than 1000 miles on cam. The car has 15k miles and I do have the original oil pump in the car and its a 2010 SS.
My question is, either the pump needs replaced or the oil pressure sensor is bad correct? What is the easiest was to test the sensor so I can do that first before replacing the oil pump? And if the pump is bad, what pump do you all suggest I replace it with? The car was not making any noises and started just fine, but was immediately shut off when I seen the pressure was 0 and the message came up on the dash. Thanks |

Melling oil pump seem to be the popular replacement model. There are a lot of DIY threads around here that show, in detail, how to go about replacing the pump. Oil pump failure is quite common on 5th Gens.
