Love the kitty cat. Not sure it'll make me run out and get one of these though. The thing I read here that makes the most sense, if true, is the stock opening at the filter box only being 2"x2". That would seem a no brainer to restrict flow. And...I thought my V6 "sounded" great on the intake side of things. Probably was because the engine was so quiet compared to the V8.
I have said it before, in my old age, I've learned not to F with reasonably good engineering. And hey, CAI's look very cool. I just approach mods on everything from my guns, guitars and Camaro very cautiously now. One thing's for certain, if I laid out the cost for a good CAI, I'd damn well say it made a difference. If I didn't say and believe that, I might as well chuck it and put the stock-box back on.

I second the op opinion. The product is high quality, easy installation, better throttle response and now i hear my supercharger. I also installed the WW2 bottle fit and finish superb. Thanks Rotofab.

I like the carbon fiber pieces Roto-Fab has for the MAF and inlet elbow.

Hmm, just measured my 2015 intake opening. (as best I could) It's more like 6"x 3.5". It does neck down to about 3"x3". And... is behind the headlight. But a lot of outside air is around the headlight. Again, I'm no engineer but the neck-down should create a bit of a compression effect increasing air flow velocity. There is a gap in front of the opening where one could make that case that it's sucking some hot air but doubtful if the car moving much.
I'm just going to have to remain skeptical of any real performance gains. Coolness factor? (as is bitchin', sick, etc...) Yes, bonus points for that.

Wow, Ravensjeff. Now that's a dream mod of mine...Lingenfelter! But something tells me it's the 'OTHER' mods that make that thing a fire breather, not the CAI!

I have a Rotofab on my 2 LT vert, and I can tell the difference in both acceleration and a little bit more on gas mileage.

These CAI's without a lid that use the hood to seal the top. When the hood is closed it seems like there could be a gap between the hood and the top rubber edge of the CAI box. Or if the box is a little high it could keep the hood up a little bit on the front corner over the CAI. Is there some sort of adjustment to fit an air tight seal? Just wondering.

We use this design whenever we can effectively seal to the hood. This approach gives all of the advantages of a lid while increasing air box space and filter size. Keep in mind the seal to the inner fender is just as important as the seal to the hood. We take the time and maintain a level of precision to achieve the seal-top and bottom. For sealing to the hood, we use a 5/8" bulb seal. The bulb is enclosed but hollow which allows it to compress when the hood is sealed. If you look at any Roto-fab equipped Camaro, you will see a witness mark on the hood which extends the full length of the air box. Is it effective? Yes. We thoroughly test our systems to be sure we achieve the lowest intake temps we possibly can. If it wasn't effective, our intake would have a lid. FYI, the Chevrolet SS sedan has a hood strut crossing the air box area and a hood liner fastener which crosses the plane of the optimal air box wall location. For those reasons, we designed our SS sedan intake with a lid. We aren't a "lid or no lid company" nor are we a "plastic or metal" company. We do all metal fabrication and plastic molding in-house. That gives us the flexibility to approach each application with an open mind and use the design and materials we feel are best for the application. In this photo, we used baby powder for clarity. A Roto-fab equipped Camaro will have a witness mark in the same area. |

Roto Fab, I'm always glad to see and hear the people's view who have spent the dough re me and done the research on their product. I don't dispute that it is a legitimate performance aid. (I just respectfully question its real gains) And as I've said, the coolness factor is hard to dispute...quantify. I wish you much success in your endeavors to market and sell this product. And I may one day indeed be a customer. Cuz I just love this s*%t!
