Wow... you guys have owned some nice cars! I am almost embarrassed by my car ownership history, but here are a few. None are muscle cars (or at least my def of muscle)...

1968 Chevelle with a 307. Nothing fancy. First car! Yes!
1976 Camaro LT with a 305
1985 Corvette
1984 Z-28 (soon to be totalled by my new bride)
1967 Mustang with a 289

....long pause due to marriage and kids and a lot of pickup trucks and minivans

2014 Camaro SS.

At one point, we also had a 2000 Toyota Celica GTS. It was a lease, so I don't even consider it as "owned". Fun little sporty car though..

I've had somewhere well over a hundred cars over the years now, with 13 right now. About a dozen have been Corvette's, and maybe 8 have been various Camaro's. Some favorites include the Corvair (fun car and you can really soup them up), and then just about any 60's and 70's classic you can name, it's been here. I always say, "One day I'll have a Ferrari..." but it's just talk. I don't really want one. I have not had a Porsche and would like to give a go at one, but not sure I want to deal with maintenance costs and it's one engine I'm not familiar with.

I'm not a ZL1 owner but my SS is my first muscle car I've owned.

I thought 400HP would be more than enough, I should have got a ZL1 instead.

I think a 2013+ manual ZL1 would be the perfect car for me. The new gen 6 Camaro will likely be a better car with more tech but the gen 5 just looks better to me.

I'm hoping the gen 6 drives down the price of gen 5 ZL1s. I don't want to spend more than $40K on one.

I spent 44k on my fully optioned convertible auto ZL1, with 3480 miles on it...
By the time the new 6 gens hit the dealership you should have no problem getting one for 40k ish ...

Also the manual ZL1 was an awesome car and I thought it was my perfect car as well.
That was till I drove the auto ZL1.

That seems like a pretty good price. I'm not big on convertibles but I can understand why some people love them. The weather where I live is either 105F with enough UV to burn your scalp on the way around the block or freezing cold while the heated seat remains on all winter. It's not a good climate for convertibles.

I drive an auto right now and it gets a bit boring sometimes, I think a manual would increase the fun factor. It might get a bit tiresome while commuting but should make spirited driving more involving.

I don't get the seat of the pants "this car is powerful" feeling in my L99. It's so smooth and calm when accelerating. I think a manual ZL1 would give me that "muscle car" feel while still being a great daily.

Yeah the manual definitely will give you that feeling but keep in mind the auto ZL1 versus the auto SS is like night and day. I've had manuals in these kind of cars for years now and they just can't compete with the new tech of the autos now a days. Plus the auto with paddles gives me insane driving pleasure. That and with the mods I have done.

I've always had coupés and now that I have a convertible I probably never not have one, love it!
At the same time though I only drive this car 6 months out of the year and the temperatures then are anywheres from 40 degrees to 95 degrees, making it a perfect summer car for me.
Good luck when you get your new Z ..your going to love it!

We have high desert weather. Not a whole lot of moderate temps, just really hot and really cold depending on season.

I would imagine the extra 200HP of the ZL1 makes the auto a lot more exciting than the SS auto. There's a dealer with an auto ZL1 in but they're a nightmare to deal with so I haven't gone down to test drive it.

I'll definitely enjoy a ZL1 (I already enjoy my SS, I'm just looking for more). Once winter passes I'll probably be on the steady lookout for a ZL1. The perfect one will show up eventually.
