Rats think they found a new home

So, decided to pull the car out today and clean the inside some. Figured i would check the oil and my fluid levels since I haven't In a while and I see this shit when I pop the hood.
Lucky It didn't look like any wires have been chewed on and every thing looks fine. From all the stuff that was piled on there, it looks like the have been doing it for a while. Any one got any ideas on how to prevent this lol?

Peppermint Extract on cotton balls. Just place a few under the hood and you will never see one again. Rodents hate the smell. We had wood mice eat our 94 Z28 fuel harness this past winter. The peppermint will work, GL

I had this happen several years ago in a Supra I had. It was during winter though. Came out and popped the hood to find a bed in the top of the engine. A friends told me to clean it up and then put a few cotton balls soak in peppermint oil where they were for a few days. It worked like a charm and they never came back.

I only drive it about 2 times a week usually on the weekends. I've heard of the moth balls but haven't heard of spearmint or peppermint oil but I'll give it a try. And I don't want to even think about a snake lol

You can take this any way you want. Up here in Central N.Y. most of us put our cars up for 6 months. Mice can chew almost any thing they want to. Moth ball just don't do the job. Been storing cars for 30years. Every since I been doing this I have had no problems. I put steel wool in the exhaust tips real tight. Mice won't chew thru steel wool. Next dryer sheets in the trunk on the dash floor front & back on seats. Lay them all over the engine bay. Cover the engine bay area good. When you close the hood don't slam it down. The suction throws them all over the place. Close it slowly.

Hope this helps you has always worked for me.

^^^^ I use dryer sheets also. Put 4 or 5 in 2 large sandwich bags. Cut slices in the bags and tape one behind each shock tower. I just leave them there. You can't see them and they work around the clock. I also put a couple in the glove box and under the front seats.
Bounce Dryer Sheets are non toxic and it works. Also, I think your dealing with moles or mice- Not rats.

Re dryer sheets: Last month I had a mole hole near my foundation. We tried everything
including Mole&Rat poison, flooding with garden hose, M80's (yes, more for fun than
anything else- lol) but nothing worked. Each time the next morning the hole was back.
I finally took 6 dryer sheets and stuffed them into the hole with a long screwdriver.....
Bounce dryer sheets work- No more moles.

You can always get rat traps (ones that literally trap them instead of kill them), then let them loose somewhere far out in nature. That's what my family used to do in California.

You should completely remove your engine cover, and look for chewed wires under it with a flashlight. The little bastards not only cut 10 wires in my harness, they also stripped the insulation for over a foot.

$140 for the dealer to fix the mess. I have now put flex loom over every wire bundle that I could reach, and zip tied them all closed.

Here in Michigan we store things for several months. This last year they got into our 66 Chevelle, 2003 pickup, and motorhome, we had the Camaro in Florida. We have used pepermint oil on cotton, dryer sheets, they used both to make nests with. Our neighbòr uses moth balls and they help some. The pickup and Chevelle they made nests in the duct work. A few years ago they chewed the tractor wiring and some wiring in the garage. In the summer I kill all that get into the garages. I even had some poison blocks out for them. Moth balls will be tried this year.

I've had good luck by placing a few of the cake- type rodent poisons in nooks and crannies on all of my vehicles. Any vermin that get that wild hair to get all up in my biz are going to end up with a fatal dose of what they got coming...
