Unknown Camo SUV

Just took these about 10 min ago. I was really excited as this was the first time I had seen a camoed vehicle in real life. Sorry for the terrible photos, I had about 10 seconds to get them before he turned. There were 2 of them following each other. And I just noticed the F150 in front had Michigan plates too. I'm in IA

Good catch, but tough to guess the make from the pictures.

With an F150 leading the way (there is usually a support vehicle on test trips) it could be a Ford, but tough to say what. They just did the Escape so if this is a really small vehicle it could be a Ford competitor for the Chevy Traxx.

Hyundai/Kia don't have a pickup yet so they could be using a Ford for support.

Always fun to see them in the wild though.

Do the Koreans even have an R&D center in Michigan (to warrant the MI state manufacturer plates)?

I'm going to share your first guess, that its Fords 'cute ute'.

Here is another one for maybe size comparison to the F150. Is Ford ready for a new Explorer?

Not MKX. The MKX's door handles don't sit on the body crease like that.

It looks to have design cues from both the Everest and the new Edge.

True, I didn't notice that. I was assuming it was a redesigned 2016 MKX that they hadn't removed the camo from just yet (perhaps a sport model for MY 2017). I suppose it could be a Edge (lines look right) even though they did a redesign in 2015. Now my curiosity is really peaked.

It does seem to have Ford lines but I also get a slight Honda vibe from it.

new explorer just out for 2016, new edge out for 2015. New MKX out for 2015 or 16 as well.

If its a ford prodcut, maybe Lincoln version of the Explorer? Can't really tell tho, looks to small to be a Lincoln Explorer, also the way the roof line comes down at the end doesn't seem to me very explorer like...poking holes in my own theory lol

Doubt it is a Ford. When I did Testing for VW-Audi, we always had different Manufacturer Lead & Chase cars

If it is...and it might not be, a Ford product. I have 2 theories.

1. It could be a redesigned Everest. To replace the current Explorer. Seeing as the Explorer's platform is being killed. Ford is supposedly moving Focus and Fiesta production to Mexico, so they can use their Wayne plant to produce a new Ranger/F-100 and a bof suv. But it seems a little early as I don't believe that they plant is anywhere near tooled for that.

2. It could be a Explorer replacement and a new Lincoln Aviator built on the new D6 platform. Early versions of this new F/A/RWD platform should be popping up very soon.

Come to think of it...I suppose it could be a mix of both theories. A D6 suv built somewhere else for now to get the vehicle tested and production started before moving into the Wayne plant. That's all of course assuming it's even a F-LincMoCo product.
