Electrical Ghost

I cannot figure this out!

I turn my foglights off and my footwells come on. After several cycles the relay stops working for the fogs.

I installed a fog light kit on my LS and already had footwell lighting from LED Glow. The footwells are on an add a fuse in the dash fuse box (2a fuse for them) and the foglights are wired to the battery. The switch for the fogs uses a relay, a ground (separate from my footwell grnd) and an ignition power source (to prevent them from staying on) at the engine fuse block (5a add a fuse).

So when I turn my foglights off, the footwells come on. Sometimes this even causes the foot well controller box to act up and go haywire.

My other LEDs on another system are not affected, neither are my other after market electronics.

So I isolated both systems, still happens. Used conduits and checked if any wires touch, none do. Moved the ignition wire around to 12 different fuses, still happens. I even used an external battery for the light power and the switch power, still happens. I use an external ground, still happens.

A friend bought the same foglight kit and we installed it. Her footwells are the same kit as well. Her car has the same problem with an entirely different layout. SAME THING!

Any ideas?

Try not powering the illuminated switch and see what happens. You are bleeding power somewhere and it is back feeding into the LED's, which kinda makes me think they are backwards as well as diodes should only go 1 way. Need a good multi-meter to see where you have voltage and when.

It apparently has to do with the relays for both. I tried powering a small test bulb with the relay from the fogs. When I use the relay inside of the car without any connection to the car it turns the LEDs on. Somehow this relay is interfering with the other relay. I put the relay into another vehicle and it didn't work at all, same setup.

Just going to replace the relay and see if it works.
