question about opening the roof

Hi,

I can open my roof without pulling the "roofcatcher" in the trunk.
Is that normal or is my "safety system" to open the roof broken?

Please your reaction.

Regards Rob

ps They are installing Vacuum Cutouts on my car right now

I'll try mine this afternoon. I'm pretty sure that the "partition" has to be in place for mine to operate.

Just checked it. My top will go up without the "tray" in place.
It will NOT go down with the "tray" retracted.

I would assume you are talking about a convertible. The pullout has to be out in order for it to work, but there is a way to bypass it that people have done. Did you buy the car new or used? If it was used, then maybe someone didn't like to have to stop and put that out and bypassed it.

Thanks a lot. I bought it used.
Can I undo the bypass?

Yes. Jump over to the convertible section and do a search.

I wouldn't recommend bypassing the sensor. If you have bulky stuff in the trunk higher than the pullout you'll bust your rear window putting the top down. I don't believe they are replaceable and you'll need a new top.

This is correct.. Or this is what I have heard. I personally think the rear window could be replaced after looking how it is attached but I really don't want to find out.
IIRC, the pullout screen has magnets at each end that lets the system know it is in place. You can put the top up if the pullout has accidentally retracted but you shouldn't be able to put it down without the screen in place

1 1/2" of the rubber seal around my rear window separated slightly from the glass. They gave me a whole new top. I would've thought that if the window was replaceable they would have done so. I would have been pissed if it wasn't under warranty.
