I'm interested in this as well. I'm going to my first dragstrip in about 2 weeks.
Street rubber here as well too

Good luck lmfao!!! I would start at 3k and roll into the gas and quickly letting of the clutch. Work you way up in rpms each run until you find what the car likes. Before my th400 swap I was launching at 4500rpms on my street tires.

Might as well leave off idle with those tires and that power - should give it enough gas/rpms to barely spin them for max acceleration.

Don't dump the clutch too quick or it's spin city. i have a little extra power, but would think it would be the same stock. Easy out off the line and once you know she's hooking up just let it rip.
I'm still experimenting with launching rpm, but 3 - 4 seems to be right depending on track conditions. My first time to the track last year I couldn't hook up for anything, but that was on street rubber that was probably overdue to replace.

Pirelli's like lot's of heat, so warm them up.

With my stock Pirellies stock clutch and the Vortech V3 at stock boost. I found lowering the the air down to 22 psi and just a light spin of the tires (NO water box) 2000- 2500 RPM and don't slip the stock clutch too much it does not like it. So you're kind of aggressive on letting the clutch out. At 2000 - 2500 RPMs you will be at extremely low boost which will help you will spin just a little bit and launch really well. So you can literally let the clutch out over course of about a 1.5 to 2 seconds and roll on the gas very aggressive at the same time(remember low rpm low boost low-power) The car will probably lightly bog and take off without wheel hop or being too hard on the rest of the drivetrain.
Now add in a aftermarket clutch with a heavy flywheel and DR and that all goes out the window and with a lot of mods. I find leaving at 5000rpm and slipping the clutch purty hard will spin the 555r for a few feet as I roll on the gas. Before people start saying you will break stuff leaving at highter RPMs they are only right if everything is equal. What I mean is leaving at 3500 RPM and stopping the gas is more violent than 4500 RPMs and rolling on the gas. The difference is using the energy built up in the motor and flywheel to get the car rolling. The key is slipping the clutch. But is harder on the clutch the more you slip it. It's 1:48am so I may be a little bit scatterbrained when writing this lol. |

Im late to the party but I got to run the track this summer and what a time. The g5 is a pain compared to the Gen 3 I had. Let me say I ran my gen 3 with a stroker 383 mcloud clutch a pp on the street and had a blast. Fast forward 26 years later and this Gen 5 and computer gave me a time. I turn off the traction control and dump the clutch she stalls on me. It seemed to run best with the competition setting and bringing it to 4 on the revs. Also I was killing a fox body Mustang and suddenly lost power at the end of the 1/8 as if I stepped on the clutch when I didnt. The revs were just above 6 grand. Researching I found that you have to mod the clutch res separating it from the brake. But still not crazy about this traction control thing. Seems to interfere a lot, and the T6060 has longer rougher throws than the gen 3 had.
Im looking into the MGW shifter to help the throws. Any suggestions? |

Check out this website. There's a lot of good informatioin there. It helped me get some really good times both stock, and stock tires supercharged. Launching a M6 can be very difficult. With lots of seat time and finding what works for you, you'll be able to run some really killer times. My best times on stock Pirelli's were at 32 lbs, just so you know.
