Worst Case Scenario if Warranty is Denied Due to a Mod

I read so many threads of people worried that if they modify their car the drivetrain warranty would be void. Well how much of a hit are we talking about?

If I get a custom tune or Diablo and something breaks and the warranty is denied, how much could it cost MAX? What could go wrong that could be blamed on a tune and how much could it cost?

What about nitrous? I have a bottle in my closet from my '98 Jag XK8 that has been beckoning me for over a decade. What's the max damage from a nitrous setup?

If you have to ask, you shouldn't play.

You blow expensive shit up and they don't cover it. You then have to pay to fix said expensive shit.

Got it?

So you don't know what can break and how much it costs to fix either.

What mod do you attribute to that sort of damage? A tune?

Answered about as good as that type of question could be. There are so many factors that weigh in on what's going to happen when a modded car breaks and what will or will not get covered, how would anyone be able to answer your question? As someone else said, if you have to worry about the cost of not cover repairs, then you shouldn't probably be doing nitrous and/or tuning type mods.

Tuning the engine could very easily cause you a large repair that will not be covered through out your draintrain depending on what that particular dealer comes up with as the cause for failure. There, I gave it an honest shot.

Yep off the shelf tune that the JA owner before me installed. To lean plus notorious 5.4 cam phasers. Made it to about 120k before toast. I learned a lot from that truck. The best part was it made me a camaro owner!

The thing with most modifications is that there are very few professional tuners or installers so incompetent that they'll blow up your car. Doing it yourself is another story; however, even then you're unlikely to blow up your car instantly. Besides, time alone will kill any machine, your Camaro included. Do what you want to do, but be sure to save enough to replace everything if you love your ride.

There is no "answer". Just too many variables to have a 'correct' answer. Damage could be anything from a spun bearing requiring a new set and crankshaft, to blowing a rod through the block, requiring a new engine. Lean AF ratio burning holes in pistons, dropped valves, broken springs, lifters. You name it, any one of these could happen, any combination, or all of them.

As far as "max", well, it all depends on how far you want to go. You could spend $30 grand on an engine if you wanted to. Or simple rebuild for $3-$5K. All depends on the damage and what you repair it with, and of course who.

Not only is okay to not know the answer, it is impossible to know the answer.

Lol..Worst case scenario? Well I guess the entire car could blow up. That would cost you about $25-40k depending on which used one you decide to buy. Not really sure which mod would cause total car destruction, but that is worse case.

Sbubbaklein, if anyone, knows this. 30 years of working for GM

And if you are counting your pennies now before anything goes wrong....he is 100% right.

So let's make this simple. If they deny your warranty and you blow your engine, it's going to be expensive.
