Aaron Link - Lead Development Engineer - Gen6 Camaro
Interesting fact, from an article in HotRod magazine:
We asked about any special engineering for the LT1 in the Camaro and Link pointed to the air/oil separator as, “an unsung hero of the car. We developed a legit air/oil separator for the LT1. That was near and dear to my heart. I spent a lot of time on that one.” As all Camaro LT1s will be wet-sump engines, Link told us the air/oil separator is cleverly packaged, so it’s hard to appreciate in the car. Its function is to keep oil out of the airbox and throttle-body—and therefore the combustion chamber—avoiding pre-ignition. Cool... A Big DI problem, that has been solved... ![]() This has always been a problem, with the GM 2.0T DI engine Hopefully this engineering feat, has been applied to the 2.0 T & the 3.6 V6 |

Well that's a real good thing I am glad GM got the idea and ran with it finally, as all of us will oil catch cans can attest the fouling is a problem if you do not deal with it.

Thx
This should shut up all the catch can haters..... Their argument was "GM would have put one on their DI engines if they needed one"... Well guess what folks.

None of you that have posted so far have direct injected engines except for Dizzy82, who should have a catch can. No one has ever said that catch cans are not necessary on direct injected engines. If you understand the concept of direct injection, it is obvious there is a necessity for them. On the other hand, if you understand non-direct injected engines, you equally understand the lack of any necessity for them. No one hates catch cans, most of us just hate wasting money on things that serve no purpose. More power to you if you are ok with wasting money.

The more catch cans you have, the better.
