New Guy Questions

Hello all,

I have wanted to get into some of the road course racing for quite a while. This past weekend I got a chance to run with a great group down in Houston at Grandsport Speedway.

My question is - Can someone point me in the right direction to try to get involved for the 2016 season? By no means am I expecting to come out and win, but I kept middle of the pack regarding times the Modified 1LEs and ZL-1s posted down here, so I don't think I did too bad for a "new guy". I am normally in MD so if anyone has contacts in that area that could help me out, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance guys!

NASA Southeast, just trackit, MVP tracktime for tracks in South Carolina, Georgia
Bunch of others if you want to travel to Memphis or Barber

Thanks. I will look into those as well. I travel a good bit for shooting competitions already, so for this I'd like to start local and see where that takes me.

It seems like the HPDE events are not timed? I started reading into road race TT rules but wasn't very successful in figuring out what class the camaro would fall under.

I want to challenge myself, and still see how I stack up to similarly equipped vehicles and drivers.

Unfortunately I'm stuck in North Texas for work until November, so I'll miss the local events going on.

I'd like to run my car on road courses, but have some kind of competitive environment to see where my lap times stand

At every HPDE I have been too, 99% of the drivers time their laps so it isn't hard to find out how you are doing, even though they are not timed events.

Before you head out for your next track day make sure your brake pads have at least 50% of the material left and that you upgrade your brake fluid to something suitable for track use.

Certainly will. I was actually looking at swapping the fronts for the CTS-V calipers/rotors. If I'm gonna break the system open. Make it worth it right?

For the OP, the reason HPDE's are not timed is Insurance. They are insured as Driver Education events, which implies that it is not racing.

There are a number of ways to time yourself - probably the best way for future reference is to get a GoPro. That way you will have Video that will be time stamped.

If you get to the point where you think you might want to Race, but don't want to chance bending up your Camaro, consider ChumpCar. They race at almost every track in the country (ViR in December) and you can rent rides. I ran last weekend at Sebring (2nd year in a row) and had a Blast!
