Who has an extended warranty? VSC
If you have one:
How long is it good for? How many miles? Insurance company that provides it? What does it cover? Deductible? Any claims yet? Trying to decide if I want to buy one or not. Thanks |

I'm guessing most people aren't going to be big fans of extended warranties but I definitely am. The very first one I purchased was when we bought a used 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. About 6 months before the warranty expired the transmission started acting up so we took it in. Long story short, we paid a $75 deductible to have $4000 worth of transmission work done. The extended warranty itself was less than $1000 so we came out ahead. Been buying them ever since.
On my Camaro I have an extended warranty. Mine comes with a few extras. Unlimited road side assistance for the duration of the warranty. Unlimited PDR with 0$ deductible for the duration of the warranty. Unlimited Interior repair for the duration of the warranty. Unlimited Paint repair for the duration of the warranty. Note this isn't accident repair but rather things like paint flaking off, etc. The rest are answered inline. How long is it good for? - 5 Years from date of purchase How many miles? - 75,000 Insurance company that provides it? - It's the standard name I've seen on others, Portfolio Protection. What does it cover? Along with what's mentioned above, it extends the bumper to bumper from 3/36 to 5/75. It extends the drive train to 5/100. It might be easier to list what it doesn't cover. It doesn't cover lost fluids/refrigerant. It doesn't cover chipped or broken glass due to rocks, accidents, etc. It doesn't cover consumables (tires, brake pads, etc). Deductible? $100. Any claims yet? - On this one? No.

I got some of it on mine, extends the full warranty to 5/100 I don't remember all the details but its comprehensive. I also got the tire and wheel warranty which was about 380.00 total and it replaces the tire or wheel if Damaged. I figure either 1 wheel or 1 tire damaged and that one pays for itself with 20" wheels and Pirellis

I have bought them in the past, all of them were GMPP except for 1, which a dealer convinced me was GMPP until I got the paperwork out of the packet AFTER I left the dealership..
I sit on the fence on them. My current 2014 GMC Acadia is over the initial bumper to bumper warranty, and I did not buy it. I am not sure about my Camaro if I am going to buy it when the initial one expires.

I also fully believe in the extended warranty. I bought a used '07 Silverado about 7 years ago. I bought the extended warranty which I believe was bumper-to-bumper for an extra 75k miles/5yrs. Same as the guy earlier, the transmission went out. The truck wouldn't shift into 3rd at all. Thought it was the solenoids so we replaced those on our own. Turns out 3rd and overdrive were completely burned out. I was a bit concerned bringing it in because I had a few performance mods on the truck and big mud tires. I figured they would find a way to blame that for it going out. Long story short, $100 bought me a brand new 4L60E transmission worth around $4600. I have since traded that truck in for my Camaro, and I bought an extended warranty through the same company.
Length - 5yr Miles - 75k Coverage - Bumper to Bumper (Including tires/wheels/even windshield chips) Deductible - $100 per claim No claims as of yet

I've owned several new cars over the years and never gotten one; knock on wood have never had an issue where I would have needed to use one. Other's in my family and friends have purchased them and never used them. From what I've seen, any 'failures' covered by warranty happen in the first couple of years before the basic warranty expires. Again, this has been my experience through the years and, at this point, I have saved enough money by not purchasing them, that if something were to happen, I'd still be ahead of the game.

If you have one: Yes
How long is it good for? 6 years How many miles? 100k Insurance company that provides it? Don't remember What does it cover? Bumper to Bumper, Rims, Dentless ding repair, Windshield Deductible? 100 Any claims yet? Not yet I had one on my 06 trailblazer a few years ago. The 4x4 blew out at 62k miles. That warranty covered the 5,500 dollar repair, was well worth it. A friend of mine had a 06 Grand Am and used his extended warranty to replace his transmission at 25k(Was just past the 3 year/36 factory) |

The only name I see on the paperwork is Portfolio Protection. It's the same standard name I've seen the paperwork whether the policy came from a GM, Toyota, or Jeep dealer.

That sounds like an awesome warranty. I seriously doubt that is what I signed up for last weekend. All they mentioned is tires and rims and bumper to bumper. I assume some warranty paperwork will come in the mail at some point. Meanwhile I guess I need to stop driving long enough to get out my packet and see what I paid for. I'm diggin' being a part of the Camaro community. Wanted one my whole life and finally got my 2011 2LT Convertible at a great price for the low miles last weekend...just in time for some nice top down fall driving through the changing leaves. |

The reason it's so reasonable is they exclude unreliable cars like certain Mercedes, Jaguars and some BMWs. https://www.route66warranty.com/asp/index.asp The one you want is Easy Street coverage if your car qualifies. https://www.penfed.org/Route-66-Extended-Warranty/ BBB Rating A+ http://www.bbb.org/new-mexico-southw...e-nm-99127876/ Last edited by yescats; 10-03-2015 at 08:36 PM. |
