I think it's an exciting idea...however, I have been involved in a fundraising event for the past 13 years (Stevie Ray Vaughan Memorial Scholorship Ride & Concert) ... it take lots of $$, time, planning, advertising, volunteers to pull something like this off.

If you choose to do this in Austin, you'll need to consider the UT home football games... weekends are CRAZY when there's one goin' on...hotels are booked, plus they raise thier prices. Traffic is nuts!

I'd think you'd need volunteers in that area to do most of the leg work... ie: finding/setting up the meet space, setting up the hotels, etc. You need to "see" the places in person if you don't want a big surprise when we all show up. Unless you are familiar with the area & all.

I'd be willing to do what I can.... sounds like a GREAT idea.

My car is on the TRAIN!!!

May be EXTREMELY optimistic, but I was talking with one of the emplyees at the new BIKINIS's downtown on 6th street. She was telling me the management is really looking for a good way to promote the new restaurant (opens this weekend 9/4/2009) and I thought we could maybe do something with the camaro.

I know in the past they have had biker rallys downtown where they block off that "block" of 6th street and allow the bikers to park. IF this thing started to materialize and the restaurant was on board, we could have some sort of "2010 Camaro Car Show" sponsored by the restaurant. OBVIOUSLY i know this will take ALOT of planning, logistics, talking with city officials about blocking off the street, etc etc. BUT, i think it would draw a nice crowd, and bring many camaro enthusiasts to not only view the Camaros but also to dine with us at the restaurant.

Just kickin around ideas..
Anyone have any thoughts?

We should do like the north texas fbody association does every year and have a Camaro gathering and show at the Texas State Fair in Dallas. We went 2 years in a row but missed last year because of driving all the way out to Indy for the Camaro unveil.

Seriously...hey, in fact, I'll get together with Millie (the pres and one of the disciples) and see what we can work up...if ya'll are interested!

Message sent to Millie and thread started on the TFBA site. For anyone who's been to the State Fair, it is an ABSOLUTE BLAST. There's TONS of stuff to do. So, it's not just a quick show and drive 300 miles back home. You get there, get your hotel, meet up that first night for dinner and do drinks back at the hotel on "the back porch." The next morning, everyone drives out and sets up at the fair. Then, it's whatever everyone wants to do for the day. There's a HUGE car show of all new vehicles from all makes, TONS of buildings, carnival type games, ride and drive events, all sorts of vendors. I mean, this is an all out good time. And the place is HUGE. But, it's an all day and one day event. I really hope they hold it again this year cause sure as hell I"M GOING!!!

Can try to do something like TX2K that the Supras do every spring. 3 day event that takes place in Houston (car show/ dyno day), College Station (TWS autoX) and S/A-Seguine (drag racing).

Austin Leg Work

I would be willing to help with the leg work to set up the Austin Meet. Sounds like some great ideas brewing already!

I posted something very similar to this here. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38699

Ya it would be cool, the key is to find a sponsor someone who can bring out some products, and raffle off some prizes maybe even a dyno. We don’t have to have a weekend M&G we could just have a large BBQ at a park or something like that in that daytime and then hit a drag strip at night.

I’m willing to help with some of the leg work I just e mail you... I think we may need to do it in November... This is going to take a lot of planning and the further back we push it more people will have their Camaro.

Hey Doug!!

That would be great to have a group from across the state!! State Fair
Day this year is Oct. 10. I'm going to get the info out soon, but you
have to be a member of one of the 3 fbody clubs in order to
participate. We went to this format last year because there were just
too many people coming in that nobody knew and the potential for
"asshat stunts" was just too great to take a chance. People can join
TFBA for $20 per year, which is probably close to what they'd pay for a
car show anyway and they get into the Fair free for all day along with
everyone they can stuff ini their car.

I'll post info for joining TFBA asap in the "Meetings, Events,
Gatherings, and Shows" section of the board and hopefully some of your
friends will want to join and come to the Fair. Great hearing from you
and hope to see you soon!!!!

Milli
Here you go!

Looks like Oct 10th at the State Fair is on. I'm going to pay my $20 for a membership fee like I did that last two times and head on up there. Info will be posted on the hotel and I'll start a thread on this site linked to her site for all the info.

Something I MUST point out....

Milli isn't just talking about not knowing people...she's talking about not knowing what type of people will be joining and what they will do. This is a fun filled event...and the two years I went, was run without a hitch. No one did burnouts, no one went nuts tearing up the grass....it was smooth. We RESPECTED the rules and abided by them. There were no fines by fire marshals either....since it was held with respect.

Should there be ANYONE who can NOT control themselves, there will be NO need for you to join the club, come out, and make a fool of yourself. It will NOT be tolerated.

This IS an exciting event...there's awards, music, shows, etc etc etc. I'm excited just thinking about it. Again, I'll post up more info in a bit.

Very cool. I checked just now and no new details. I'm sure they will be up shortly. As they are put up, I'll post the link and we'll get the ball rolling for this event. I'm still down for another event in Austin...just say the word.

More pix of the 2007 State Fair... (the first set were from the 2006 show except for the ones in the Aveo.......that was fun...I think we REALLY pushed the envelope with the weight limit on that thing. THAT was hilarious!!!
