ZL1 NAV
My new ZL1 coming in does not have NAV, but the dealership said they can install a new aftermarket head unit that has the NAV and it's identical to the stock unit and still carry's the warranty 3/36k. Anyone have any experience with this? Should I do it?

I don't have experience with that situation, but I would do it if it was part of the manufacturer's warranty (not some separate warranty) and the price was right.

Why can't they install a factory unit?

I ordered factory NAV in my 14 but the OP said it would be an aftermarket unit.

The dealership told me it was installed at the dealership but it was an aftermarket unit that was identical to the factory unit... I may just go without it because I read it may not work in the HUD.

It would be interesting to see what they offer. Hard to believe an aftermarket unit fits the form factor and has all the same interfaces.
Nav was the only thing on my wish list I could not get. I just use a Gamin unit whenever I need nav.

Sounds like your dealer is using a cheap aftermarket unit so they can profit the diff in the factory unit. If that's the case your warranty would be useless outside that dealer.

I would just grab a garmin with lifetime updates and call it a day

I wouldn't do that. There are so many nav choices out there, that you don't need a car based navigation unit.

Everyone has an opinion. The factory NAV is usable, but the updates are like $175 and are always out of date. Like others have said here, grab a garmin with free lifetime updates for less than half of the installed factory price.

I think if our cars were daily drivers we would use it more.
I bet most of the peeps here only drive on the weekends or at the track so the NAV is never used. Well at least that's my story.
